Can anyone identify this vehicle?

My grandfather recently passed and when going through old photos, I found these two. My grandfather was known to purchase cars that weren't convertibles, only to chop their roofs off. This one could be an example of that. I'd really like to know what car this is though. Any help would be appreciated.

It must have been sometime after WW2 (late 40s), so this may be an American vehicle.

The grill, hood, and fenders are totally different. I have no idea what it is but its definitely not what you posted.

Come on Leno post up..lol

Keep in mind there was a ton of coach building going on back then. Often a driving chassis with a grille was delivered and the coach builder got to work. Some of the chryslers from that era had vent doors

Thanks everyone for the help so far. I'm doing quite a bit of digging as well, especially using Google Images.

Even though my grandfather was known for chopping off roofs, I am not sure if he went much further than that. If you look at this picture carefully, it actually looks like the front window folds down and there is a convertible top in the back.

Great eye on the suicide doors. I had not noticed that yet.

I'm thinking a 1934 Chrysler.

I think we are getting closer, thanks. I typed 1934 Chrysler in Google and found this:

It's described as a 1934 Chrysler CA 2dr Coupe. The suicide doors match!

The hubs/wheel offset and the lower block out on the grille look like a good match on that car.

It's the horizontal vents that make it American. I also looked at Fiats and alike of the same era and they all have vertical or completely different vents on the "hood".

The grille on the car in question is a wreck and likely custom so I discount that entirely from the equation. Suicide doors are a major factor and make me think Chrysler.

The circular logo on the wrecked grille makes me think it's Chrysler also.

I think we have a winner….

I believe this to be a 4 door version of the OP's vehicle in question. 1934 Chrysler Convertible Coupe i believe is the correct answer to OPs question. Although the pic in the OP seems to be a base version.

Here is a restored / modified 2 door version. Note the hinged windshield. Also, the grills are the same. One is just fully chromed and the other is partially painted.

Ha, I actually just got back from Belgium. The weather isn't exactly amazing right now. Cold, wet and dreary. Wait until summertime!

Good call. the buick is very similar. The badge and ridge in the hood are about the only things separating the two.

I am not sure what it is, but I can say that it is definitely not any of the cars listed above. I personally think that it is a European pre-war car, probably nothing any of us has heard of.

I'm surprised that nobody suggested for you to run a license plate check. It was great seeing everybody being helpful.

I was afraid of this. I actually looked at mid 30s Citroen and they look quite a bit like what I posted as well. I don't even know what other cars they had running around during the war, so I feel like there is still a possibility it's something else.
