The BIG trend for coumminty development/code enforcement is recognition of the mental illness of hoarding. No bigger seminar topic in recent years. We have about 22,000 people in the city I work in. The city has had to foot the bill on more than 1 of the clean-ups of these places, placing a lein on the property. Hazardous waste clean-up is freaking expensive!!!

The worst part is that it can effect OTHER people's mental health, not just the horder. My girlfriend is afraid to clean anything anywhere because here mom would always snap everytime she tried cleaning her own house...

It's really sad that people don't have enough respect for themselves to clean and throw out trash. I work in the sub-prime mortgage field and see stuff like this and what you described all the time. It's terrible.

Yeah it's incredible. It's almost like they know their losing the house so why not just ruin it. We had one the other week where the lady no longer lived there but her dogs did. 4 big dogs, you could smell the shit before you even hit the porch. Easily 75 or so shits that were visible from the front window and I don't even want to know how many gallons of piss the carpets were holding. Yes, we reported her to the APL.

I'm not even sure they know they're losing the house, so they'll trash it. They just are trashy as it is. A lot of people that have been foreclosed on probably came from a $75K or less home into a $300K+ neighborhood. They have no clue how 'normal' people live.

I'm a research analyst. I'll tell you more about it while I'm not at the office for certain reasons.

The worst case I found was a rental. My dad was preparing some old dude's will in the hospital, and he sent me over to clean up one of the guys rentals. This was probably 25 years ago and I still can't get the smell out of my head. The whole kitchen was waist-high bags of garbage, including baby diapers. . .
