Educating girls...

My wife never used to like cars. She used to think that it was a total waste of money. A $20K corolla will do the job of getting her from A to B just as good as a $100K 911. I am on the other end of the spectrum. I love cars like everyone else on this forum. I tried to convince her that there IS indeed a difference and basically my M3 is worth the premium over non-Ms. Surely enough, she is very soon convinced; after all, I'm just stating facts right? A few months ago, she really wanted the new Z4. But we just bought a holiday home and spent a fortune pimpin it out, the money is on the tight side (I always buy with cash, never spend on credit, that's just my way). Recently, I did some number crunching and figure that we can actually spare the $$ for a Z. I broke the news to her and the response? "Nah, let's wait for the M-version." I was like "right....." and thinking to myself omfg what have I created? What kind of trouble have I gotten myself into? What's next... is she gonna make me trade my s-class for an AMG?

So here's the question:
Should you introduce your girl to fine European motoring and have your partner enjoy and appreciate the same things as you, or let her keep thinking that all cars are the same so that she'd settle for a Miata? I bet the latter will be much more beneficial to your bank account and perhaps pay for a vacation or 2.

if fine motoring is what you like, wouldnt you want to share it with your loved one? i think its great that she now shares the interest. she DOES share it right? and not just think of M and AMG as just a status symbol?

im not married but i do have a couple of chick friends that ive totally influenced with BMWs and other cars LOL. theres nothing bad about it

oh and if you can get the Z now with the $ you have... who knows, maybe by the time the M comes out, youll be able to get that. why not have her test drive the z4, she may just fall in love with it

O, I assure that she does indeed share it. It's the type of enjoyment that can only be coaxed out with spirited driving. We both have that distinctive grin on our faces when the tach hits 8300 rpm. And to us, the whole point of getting M and AMG is to be discrete. We wanted something that provides the fun of extra performance but still wears the skin of cars that are rather subtle.

Answer from a female: Yes..if a guy shares the same passion for bmw that I do. Its just that much better.

im no huge fan of european tuning specifically, I'm a honda fanboi @ heart, but its fantastic to be with someone who is interested in cars and the joys of them.

I got the 335 not for its windmill, but for its two turbos , and if im with someone who appreciates the same concept....thats +1

Absolutely! I even have mine doing track days now in her P-car. She hates the helmet but loves the rush!

Better to just find a woman who will introduce you to hers.

My wifes eyes have opened after having my 325i. Although she won't allow the checkbook to open

My lease is about to end. She refuses to lease every again. Which can be smart but can be stupid as well. Anyways she wanted another BMW obviously and we all know what I wanted. Well we can afford it she just didn't WANT to pay for it

So we ended up with a loaded SLE Jetta Wagon, everything but Navi. We pick up tomorrow. I'll have some time with the 325i and the Sportwagen to make some comparisons. Hopefully it won't be too horrible. At least its european that's all I have to say.

I think you and I have a lot in common. Women who want Z's and that don't cook. I hope yours cleans, because mine sure as hell doesn't.
