New Diverter Valve by ECS tuning? Should i upgrade?
So it seems like theres a new option for someone that wants to run stock style DV charge ppie and use the stock DV's with this upgrade
http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335....0L/ES2864864/ Maybe im not understanding this parts purpose? I still have stock charge pipe and stock DV's. Havent really had a problem, but my plan was to upgrade to a metal charge pipe with a single Tial BOV. I have a N54 6MT btw. But i like to keep things oem unless theres a benefit to upgrading. Such as reliability, power, easier service, or longer lasting. What is this upgrade theyre selling exactly? The way they describe it, these DV's only open as much as needed while oem is either closed or open fully. With the upgrade comes better throttle response. Plus i know the stock DV's are known to leak. So this seems like a win-win. Plus its somewhat cheap. Anyone have opinions? |

I'm running a VRSF CP with stock DV, I've always wondered what type of leaking I am having. Especially after reading the Mod Bargains page about losing 29ft/lbs of torque due to leaky DVs (google if you want, I can't post the link).
If for $135 it would fix boost leak and increase throttle response, definitely worth it. I'm unclear on how this part would work though. Do you have to buy two of them for both DVs? Or do you close one DV outlet on the chargepipe and only use one? Hopefully others know. |

The link I provided is for N54. I thought N55 didn't use a DV on the charge pipe?? |

My mind is spinning trying to figure out where that would go on an N54 charge pipe, that can't be a part for an N54 (would be sold in pairs, seem like it can attach to the pipe with those screws, etc). Looks like it's for N55 given the picture above

Yes I agree that it looks like it's only for N55. I was wondering what the screws were for, doesn't look like it would work on our CP. Man, having the DV right on the turbo seems like a good design, but I don't know a lot about it.
ECS should not be branding this for N54 as they are in the OPs link. |

Definitely N55 only. No part like that on the N54.

Is this a product in search of a problem? I havent seen too many issues of torn diaphragms on these cars.
I know from experience it was a huge problem with VW electronic valves. So much so that they redesigned into to be a piston valve and the problem went away. I've wondered in the VW valve would just bolt right on and be electronically compatable, but havent had the chance to compare. I have a VW valve in my garage somewhere though... |

I'm going to be upgrading my CP and have also been considering replacing the stock DVs & tubing. I'm going to try to keep things relatively subtle (ie mostly black bolt-on upgrades), as well. I'll probably end up with one of the DV upgrades from Turbosmart or Forge Motorsport...

For others who want a brief synopsis of the rationale behind the upgraded DV (apparently just for N55!): http://www.gfb.com.au/tech/tech-arti...t9351-tech-tip |

We've been getting tons of great feedback on the Go Fast Bits (GFB) DV upgrades so far. Definitely a great option for those running high boost levels, or that just want a DV that isn't going to fail over time!
Also guys please note these are an N55 upgrade, these are not for the N54. We had an application error on our site that has been fixed. -James |

Looks like a good upgrade for the N55 guys. But after posting this thread I learned something new about the N55 DV setup. And I agree with the posters above. The N55 setup is cleaner, more direct, and less parts to fail. Very good design IMHO. SIDE NOTE: stock N54 DV's are known to leak boost pressure back into the intake tract. So a DV upgrade, either stock style or whole new A/M BOV setup is worth it for those with leaking OEM N54 diverter valves. |
