Engine oil level sensor??????

I can understand how an engine oil level sensor will work if the engine is not running.

But, does it really tell you the level while you are driving?

Seems to me with all the oil flying about, how can it know the level??

I suspect that while driving, the oil level display will show what it was before starting the engine....

If anyone knows....?????????
