Exhaust setups

Hi guys,

Looking to put a cat back on my 2011 e90 335

What are some of you guys running?
I’m preferably looking for a 3.5” with resonator and muffler.

Want something that won’t have a lot of drone or minimal but still loud.

Let me know what you guys recommend thanks!

I recently bought a Becker P catback for the E90.It does have a drone around 2k rpm. I think if you can get an x pipe with a resonator it should minimize drone. Planning to go alibaba valvetronic exhaust soon though.

Yeah I’m looking for something that will be direct bolt on and reputable not really looking for eBay or cheaper options tbh

Turner or Bomiz has their valvetronic exhaust. They both have videos on their sound. Most exhausts are direct bolt-on if they have the flange to the downpipe unless you go custom or get a halfway kit.

I just feel like with those valvetronic they still don’t eliminate drone that much since it’s just mufflers no RES. I was looking at the turner tho.

I always had more or less bolt-on exhaust, but probably Im older now, or more scared about cops taking down few remaining modded car on the road, but I went valved exhaust for my e90.

I used the generic stainless pneumatic valved exhaust. Pretty well built and cheap, paid around 220 $ cad.
Mainly closed on normal driving. Also had a ''auto'' mode, the vacuum force is limited, so the flap opens with exhaust higher pressure.

Yes you'll need a exhaust shop and a welder, but nothing expensive.

I went : HFC + Vibrant resonator 18'' and pneumatic valved muffler

I've always added a diesel resonator to my exhaust setups. The only challenge is that you'll need a long-ish straight section of exhaust to help with the drone.

Really makes the exhaust pleasing to listen to with no drone.

MBRP makes some nice ones that are loops on the inside instead of baffles.

N55 with downpipe and golf tee mod satisfied all my exhaust desires. IMO it sounded amazing, and better than any other car I've owned.

PE or PE mod is great
335is rear section will provide a similar sound for cheap
VRSF exhaust is relatively proven but overpriced for what it is
AE exhaust is by far the best exhaust for n5x but is discontinued--if you can find a used one, buy it
Cobb is a cool design, my friend has one on his N55 and likes it

Was thinking of going the Cobb route because of the resonator and muffler.

I’ve heard of lots of people running vibrant resonators. Even 2 in place of mufflers. I’m current full turbo back straight piped so honestly anything would help to eliminate it.

I have the golf T mod on my N55, its very nice, but not enough when you want to get on it.

So you dont really enjoy it, and on a cold start you still annoy the neighbor.

cut-out on the OEM exhaust line is a nice option too.

Do you have a downpipe? If anything I wouldn't have minded mine a hair quieter but it was super fun and as loud as I'd ever want a street car

with a high flow cat.

it's loud and the sound is nice, but it wont scream at high rpm like my other cars do.

on my N54 when the valve is open, the muffler is straight.
And the channels in the muffler might act like a helmholtz resonator to limit drone

I'm using the VRSF racing downpipes with the 3.5" VRSF catback + muffler delete. Have some clips on my youtube https://www.youtube.com/@Hauteknits

Yeah definitely won’t eliminate drone which is what I’m looking for

Did you buy the one with the single muffler or the one with two separate ones? Do you have resonators? The one I'm looking at (https://www.ebay.com/itm/175848005255) has an x pipe with it.

You are correct. The bomiz and turner sound practically the same to me, both drone/rasp below 3k without a resonator. The main difference is the h-pipe on the turner system vs the x pipe on the bomiz, and that turner uses electric instead of vacuum actuated valves.

Any chance you can help me with the process? I'm putting muffler bypasses in my system that are going to be similar to the f80 valvetronic exhaust, but I need to find a shop that wont pull my pants down over the price. Did you wire yours to a (single?) switch or did you use a remote?

I'd be lying if I said I didn't like their ecoboost race exhaust. Does yours sound similar to that? I know it will be different since that has 3" piping, but if it's close I might go with that over vibrant resonators.

Depends what you're doing. Me was pretty expensive since I redone all the exhaust from the OEM N54 to a single exit (I use a 328 bumper).

All in 3''.

My muffler got indeed a remote to : open/close/auto. the control vacuum box is in the back of the car.

Im planning to tear down the remote and integrate it in the oem dummy button in the car console.

you have 3 main option for the muffler.

- 1 single exit
- 2 mufflers
- 1 dual exit muffler.

in example in this link (you can find those wayyyy cheaper on ali, same same) : https://valvedexhausts.ca/collections/valve-mufflers

I've a Gravity Performance exhaust ready to fit to my car once I sort out some air and fuelling issues. It has a couple of small resonators and an X pipe, whereas the stock exhaust seems to lack resonators. Hopefully it will sound good without drone!

I had a VRSF catless downpipe and I did the Performance Exhaust mod on my stock exhaust but I made sure to put back the fiberglass insulation to supress unwanted reverberations.

Never had it drone, sounded smooth and loud enough, not to a point to be annoying and obnoxious on long drives, but still plenty of noise.
