Hi,

I am trying to fit the S55 oil pan into the E90.
I was ready for somehow attaching the power steering servo into the oil pan, but there isn't room for the servo because the oil pan is sticking out about 1-2cm more in front.

Has anyone done the conversion to S55 on the E90? If so, how did you solve it?
If no, has anyone attempted to weld a aluminum? I know that some people weld in the baffle, could the oil pan be modified by welding in a patch from N55 oil pan to allow more clearance?

Is perhaps putting a spacer to all the other parts on the belt a solution?

I don't know whether making an extension and placing the servo on a different location and compensating that by custom belt, would even work.

I know some people here have done some crazy things so I must ask here.

Hey, we have engineered a bracket as i fit a s55 oil pan on 2012 e82 135i Dct and also had the problem of were to bolt up the power steering pump. This bracket is a direct bolt on and structurally very strong and no movement in up and down or back and forth so the belt wont slip off. If interested let me know

Thanks for the update and nice work! I would imagine there are few people interested in the bracket and seeing how this is accomplished so we can do this modification in the future. Would love to see you or hear any more information you could share.

Pm me your email address so i can send you the picture. Also we are making a stainless steel copy at fabricator so we can mass produce for whoever needs it in the future when upgrading to s55 oil pan and wants to keep using original belt and direct bolt on. Also it is good for people who want to switch to power steering who are stuck with electric steering on there n55.

Did you have to do anything special for the oil pump chain tensioner? I heard on the early E-series N55 it uses a spring based tensioner and the S55 uses a hydraulic one. Is that true?

Nope reused the original chain and tensioner. Had to cut the chain guide a bit around the gear were it hooks up to the pump gear to make space so the gear will line up. Ill send you pics once i got your email

This, or another option I've discovered for adding pictures from your phone - make the post without the picture, then after your message is posted, go to edit it and options for adding pictures will then be available while editing.

Also, any pictures of what you had to cut on the chain guide?

You can see the bracket behind the power steering pump in the first picture and the second picture you can see it as well and the black thing is to support is to help reinforce it from moving up and down as extra precautions

I would definetly be interested in this Bracket.

I am trying to find a Solution since some time because I would prefer the S55 Oilpump over a Accusump installation.

But everyone told me it is not possible ... until now.

Is the Engine already back in the Car and does it fit without any other changes?
Would also be interested to see some Pictures how you have modified the Chain Guide.

did you have any problems with clearance over steering rack?

s55 oil pan is approximately 2 cm higher over it:


Worst place is bolt of steering rack. This can be easily shortened.


But will it be enough?

Were there any problems with connecting it to transmission?

Deep part is longer on s55 pan. Worst case scenario is unbolt subframe a bit.

Hi, today I dry test engine with s55 oil pan.





Closest point is bolt (removed on photos). But this should be easy to fix, with custom lug nut, partly putted to aluminum bracket.


But pan is too low. It is not possible to put plastic undercover over it. This is not good to have oil pan as lowest point off car. I am thinking about cutting and rewelding pan.

Cutting the pan seems like a non option.

The sump is kind of the point after all...

Wouldn't it be better to fabricate an aluminum belly pan cover to replace the plastic one that clears?

Anyone ever tried this on an xDrive?

I am also not too familiar with the S55 oil pan. Why is it better rhan the N55, not that the N55 is a good design, but just would like to know. Does it have a baffle?
