Where at in Apex? My wife and I are building a home in Brighton Forest currently (in Apex).

oh yeah contribution lol:

Not much yet, just broke ground Monday, closing is set for Nov. 11th. So excited! Not massive or overly expensive like most homes on here but to us it's our dream home and are very happy to be able to achieve it as such a young age.

I contemplated weather or not to post in here; i did so in hopes to bring some normalcy into the thread. Built this with my wife in 2009. The design process was fun. It was nice being able to design into the house those small details i've always wanted.

Funny that i haven't taken any pics of it since it was built. This was even before the garage doors were painted... and before i dropped the M3.

We came into some money sooner than expected and added the pool on in 2010.

Here is a view of the lake.

Nice pool man, How close are you to the lake?

Thanks! I think the back of the pool is about 100ft from the lake. There is actually water on 2 sides of the house. In the back is the lake and along one side is a 90ft wide canal. Lot size is 160ft wide and 350ft deep.

Congrats! Building a home must be a lot of fun if you can have a hand in the design process.

Thanks!, Yeah we have weekly site walks to discuss things with the builder, as well as 3 separate design appointments covering everything in the house. Pretty exciting. I'm still surprised how much home you get for the money down here in NC. I am originally from PA and 400,000 didn't get you near a new, nice, or recently built home like NC is.

View from "my house" for the next week and a half.... In St. Croix and rented the house with this southern view of the Caribbean Sea.

Started out as a investment property when the market was booming and eventually turned into my little uptown spot in the sky. Looks a little different now since the video was taken about 5 years ago for advertisement purposes.

Since we're talking about homes and how nice everyone's house is. My wife just got off the phone with her mother in Laos(small asian country near thailand and cambodia) and she just told me that the government or lack there of is tearing down her house and a few others to widen the road and they can't do anything about it.

That sucks man! When you hear about this you tend to like some of the regulations we have in this country.

I wish them the best.

As much as I openly hate the way this country is ran, I always think of how much worse it could be.

Yea, but i think you get paid for the property you have to give up. i think they pay you fair market value.

Government has taken property from us on 2 different occasions. Both times we were compensated. 2nd time we used an eminent domain atty. This was a good decision as a property owner.... as a tax payer it's not cool.

They did compensate her mother though. $2,000.00 for about a quarter of an acre and 20 + years of living there. What a shame.

What is 'just' if you have no desire or intention to sell?

I understand the need for it, but as family lore goes, my grandfather owned a piece of property on which a piece of the port of Oakland sits. I don't know the details, but they never felt the compensation was just. I'm sure the govt could get away with more back then.

Just is determined by fair market value, which isn't just the government saying your property is worth X, you can challenge any claim in court and fight not just the taking but what the proper value is.

These takings are generally in practice (like must aspects of land regulation) a necessary evil which is not to say there are not abuses associated with it especially because of how subjective the term "valid public purpose" can be to someone.

You're not mature enough to become a doctor. You sound like a spoiled college student who hasn't applied to medical school yet.
