That's like driving with a gallon and a half of water in the trunk or 12yr old in the passenger's seat. We're not talking about a Lotus Elise here, this car is already ~3,500lbs.

"So I'm driving the other day but the thing was piggishly slow... turns out I had a gallon and a half of water in the trunk! Took that out and now it's a rocket." LOL

EDIT: The V8 gets a 2.4% weight increase and a 3.6% power increase. No harm done.

Glad to see it finally got IRS. Hopefully for next generation, Ford focuses on major weight reduction. I would like to see it evolve into more of a light weight track tool (even less muscle car). As it is, the 2015 GT is a fantastic bang for the buck.

It was a comment, not a criticism. This was the first official weight information I've seen so I thought it should be posted.

You want Floyd Mayweather, this thing is Mike Tyson.

This car is a sledgehammer of performance. It will never be a scalpel, nor should it be. If you want a lightweight track tool you should buy a Lotus, S2000, or Miata and let the muscle cars do their muscle thing.

I hope it keeps trending to the European influence. Then I will enjoy buying a light weight Mustang with a NA V8 and IRS. While the Mustang forum members old farts are crying themselves to sleep.

Lets not forget the rumors originally had it shrinking dramatically in size and weight. Next gen this will be true (hopefully).

Yeah I wasn't directing that blast at you - It was a preemptive strike against those who I know will trot in shortly.

The old stick axle version was faster around most tracks, adding an IRS isn't going to hurt it.

You think the new GT is faster than an M4/3? I'll take the bet, guess we'll know when it's released.

I don't agree. That will drive the cost up and flies in the face of what the car is to be and would probably drive sales numbers down. I"m not sure they'd recoup all the traditional Mustang lovers they'd lose with a higher-priced V6 or GT (or Ecoboost now I guess) developed at the Ring which will rattle your molars loose over potholes. The GT350, yes, the commoner trim levels, no IMO.

They are headed in the right direction, the closing speed on coupes like the M3 et al is moving at a good pace already (although I'm pretty sure the M4 will dust the new one but we will see just what that comparison looks like soon enough). Remember what a steaming pile of crap the 3V was? Ford was on the same chassis (albeit updated) when the BOSS came out. Pretty crazy.

I was hoping for some reduction but I think jumping from one gen to the next while only gaining <100 lbs is ok. Believing the rumors that it would lose 300+ lbs... Well, if you believed that would happen, I've got a bridge to sell you. Gaining a small amount of weight from one gen to the next is not good, but ok just the same. I also wish they would have done better in that regard but we have to ask at what cost that would have been implemented....

They will keep the weight light enough to meet their performance goals while still coming in under budget. That will always be how it works, it will not go severely light-weight (aside from special "trims") for the foreseeable future.

I'm much more interested in the dynamics as opposed to the power output. It's a completely different car. It got a ~4% power increase but the performance gain will be much greater than that.

I beg to differ. Go see what the Boss 302 ran for the 2012 Lightning Lap compared to a M3 and 1M......better yet, the GT500....and it wasn't even the '13 GT500....or even what a heavy ass CTS-V did it in.

EDIT: '13 GT500 ran even faster BTW......
