Gas Poised to Hit $3 a Gallon Nationwide

Ouch. These gas prices recently have cut into my ability to enjoy my e90.

Texas must be well off, eh? They have those refineries speckled here and there (and they are huge, too!).

You guys read in the latest Roundel about BMW testing a form of steamer-engine device which will help cut fuel use while at the same time raising engine power? It uses heat from the exhaust to heat water, which in effect transfers the power back to the engine in a rather complicated pathway.

BMW doesn't want to lean so much on hybrid as it may impede performance.

well, i hope the exxon executives buy themselves something nice for this multi-billion dollar profit they're making off of this crisis. a lot of money is never enough...

"refiners in Los Angeles are averaging gross profit of 65 cents a gallon of gasoline sold, said David Hackett, president of Stillwater Associates, an Irvine consulting firm. That's up from an average of nearly 38 cents earlier this year."

It's a shame to have my E90 sit, but I haven't been driving anywhere lately unless I really have to. And coupled with the warm weather we've been having, I've been walking everywhere.

bring on the high oil prices I say...

I'd rather pay $500 up front to the gas station if this bumps up my oil stocks making up the $500 and then some

ok, i somehow knew someone was going to bring this up. SO WHAT WE DRIVE $40k CARS?????? am i supposed to just sit back and relax now watching all Exxon executives stuffing up their pockets with our money?? wtf does it matter how expensive car i drive, i do not like being milked for weak reasons.

this is such a bullshit argument it makes me wanna explode  it's like saying that anyone and everyone around me is now entitled to ask more money from me because i have a $40k car and i should not complain about it because i drive a $40k car and so i have no right to complain about money. i'm sorry, that's just crap!

Thank you, vladinecko. In today's world, $40,000 is nothing. You can buy a ford pickup truck for $50,000. I think that goofy chevy truck that looks like a 1940s truck starts at around $50,000.

When I put gas into my car, I feel like I might as well be just burning three twenty-dollar bills. Not only am I wasting $60.00 just to fill up my tank, I'm destroying the world at the same time. Good deal

I hope a clean, alternate fuel comes out soon and all these oil companies and foreign countries get it shoved right up their ass.

well, the E90 takes 91 Octane gas so at $3.10 a gallon, you're well at $50-$60 for a full tank of gas. I used to spend $100-$120 on gas monthly, it's gonna be even more now.

I was watching on the news gas is going to rise another 15-20 cents a gallon through the summer before it stabilizes. Gas prices have risen 20 cents per gallon since April!

(btw, why does this smiley look so angry?) did you guys know a Stamp is now 39 cents?? I just found out a couple days ago...man, I've been out of the loop...

And they're going up again in the summer from what I hear. I can't understand why they don't just raise the price all at once.

it's supply vs demand

if exxon was really gauging us for $$$$, the other refineries would see opportunity to gain market share by selling for less money.

So if you own two Enzos - you'd still be complaining about $1 jump in gas from $2 to $3?

The simple fact is you wouldn't because that contradicts your air of abundance - to the point where you'd be humiliated.

Analogous to me becoming a billionaire overnight yet I continue to haggle for bargains at the flea market.

Somehow I don't think that fuel prices represent a truly competitive supply/demand market.

you're right.

also have to take into account the change to the additive ethanol (instead of mtbe and other alternatives). i heard there's also problems with piping ethanol (very corrosive iirc), so a lot of it has to be trucked in. then there's the repair and maintenance of refineries (this seems to be happening a lot more these days). but after all this, the oil companies are still making more money than they did a year ago.

after all this, US gas is still cheaper than a lot of places (i know you know since you're in canada). but at least in some places, these taxes go back to improving public transportation.

In fact, their profits have been increasing so much that Exxon-Mobile (among others) are currently embroiled in litigation of purported price-gauging. Is it funny that when Katrina spanked the Gulf Coast and its refineries, oil companies see a continued INCREASE in profits?
