Speaking from personal experience (I was at ORD last night waiting to take the Dreamliner launch flight from ORD to WAW)...

The mexican goverment will buy one as the new official presidential airplane (nicknamed MexiOne jk) and the company AeroMexico order 19 Dreamliners. Too bad lol

This is all precautionary. Boeing is essentially a massive assembly operation so it's not terribly surprising that a faulty part from a supplier has caused an issue. Reminds me of our HPFP issues.

The A380 isn't a competitor to the 787, the 747-800 is (sort-of). At any rate, the A380 has had its fair share of launch issues as well. Did you ever read about Qantas flight 32 (http://avherald.com/h?article=43309c6d%2F0007&opt=0)? They also have issues with wing cracks. The dispatch rate for the 787 has actually been pretty good (higher than the 777 at launch) and is on par with most clean sheet aircraft designs at launch.

A couple of days ago, a family member of mine who does some mechanical engineering for a company I assume works with Boeing said the 787 was having problems with its brakes.

That is actually pretty severe if you think about it. Imagine having HPFP in mid flight over the ocean.

It would just take extra 4 hours to reach the land, other than that....hope the fuel will hold

The A350 which will be the direct competitor to the 787 is also using the same battery technology. Hopefully this is just a bump in the road as almost all new aircraft have their issues like what Litt pointed out with the A380.
