CPO 2011 BMW 335is how much?
So I live in CA and I'm thinking about buying a CPO 2011 335is. It has almost all options except for parking sensors and comfort access. It has a great carfax with 14k miles and 1 owner. They are asking for 42k which after taxes and fees was 48k. With that amount, I could buy a new 2014 m235i. How much should I really offer? Or should I just wait for a fair priced m3 or the m235i. Thanks for your opinions.

Damn, the NADA value with NAV and the Harmon Kardon system only put the retail price at $39,425. They're asking wayyy too much and probably only gave about $32K for the trade. They may have put that price but will only go down to $39K to give them some "negotiation" room. I'd come in with a solid $35K-$37K offer if you really want it, but I wouldn't pay more.

Thanks for the response. I thought the same exact way. I walked out during the first talks and the salesmans called me back and said 44k out the door. But still...why would I pay 44k+ for a 3 year old car that is not even an M? I'm looking for a fair deal and willing to give the dealership 2-2.5k profit. However, I am not looking to get ripped off. If your estimates are correct, the dealership would be profiting 6-8k or more off this this one deal?

I would pay no more than $35-37k out the door for that car. There will be plenty of them popping up if your patient. A lot of 2012 and 2013s from lease returns. At the end of 2014 I would at least get a 2012. |

I put in an offer of 40k out the door 3 weeks ago. The salesman called me back and said 40k, before taxes and fees. I insisted on 40k out the door. And the salesman didn't bother responding. Oh well. Good luck to them selling a 4 year old car car for 40k when it hits 2015.

I'd got for an M235i. Otherwise I'd go for a private party sale, assuming you check the car thoroghly and get a PPI with your trusted mechanic

Those CA state taxes are insane. I'm so glad I'm back in Texas. Due to your tax situation, I wouldn't say this is a good deal. I'm currently looking every day for my perfect 335is, so I've seen a large variance in pricing all around the country. I've seen coupes priced anywhere from 33K-39K for 2011/2012 model years with mileage under 40K. Convertibles are a premium, so they end up being 39-45K based on mileage and model year.
Is there anyway to buy out-of-state as to obtain a tax break? If not, I think you are almost pigeon-holed into buying new. The only other option that may make sense is to find a private-sale...you should save on taxes as it would be calculated based on the presumptive value. Good luck in your search. |
