Problem is, you didn't really start your own business; rather you are working for your family business which is established.

Starting your own business is extremely difficult. We hear about the success stories, but for every success story, there are a dozen failures.

I didn't say that I started my own business but just said that it's a very good idea to do so. Yes, there are dozen failures but there are many opportunities in USA if you play it right.

Education. Statistically, the top 15 paying jobs on average are almost all medical/dental related. Sure, you can be a CEO that pays millions but the average CEO is paid less than a general dentist. Almost ALL physicians and dentists and specialists are doing 6 figures.

So, for the best chance, go to school for many years and become some sort of doctor. Otherwise, you'll have to be very fortunate or have wealth handed down to you.

BTW, I am a dentist - I'm 33, went to school for 11 years after high school and w/o financial aid from parents or a scholarship I am able to afford my own house and 2 new cars and have a stay at home wife and 3 year old son. Sure, I put in the time, but I'd have it no other way. Oh, the 2 cars are paid off and the house is 40% paid off. I should have paid down the house and drive around in a beater civic... but I couldn't resist. To you Koreans out there, you can call me hyung.

^ being a dentist sounds great.
we've got 3 koreans in a row posting.
and talking about koreans here is just something interesting i read on a korean newspaper.

the four koreans with the highest *MONTHLY salary.
1. Youn, vice president of Samsung group. (approx. 2,100,000 USD)
2. Lee, president of Samsung group. (approx. 1,000,000 USD)
3. Lee, vice president of Samsung group. (approx 850,000 USD)
4. Jung, president of Hyundai group. (approx 770,000 USD)

I'm pretty sure there are more people who gets paid more than that around the world..
but still that is a lot...
Just something i can only dream of.

Holy... You guys are impressive. I'm actually in University. Canada screwed me over, for the cost I paid for my 323i could have bought a 335i in USA. I paid 46,000$ for my 323i in Canada. Fuck. Oh well. Hopefully after I graduate, I'll be able to come out with a good job. I was also thinking of starting my own business. This thread is a very good read. Thanks for the input! Keep posting!

Money isn't everything, but as most of us know, it sure makes decision-making easier

I'm guessing I'm one of the older people posting on here, and I'll give you some pretty sound advice *which I dismissed when I was in my early 20's as irrelevant*

1. You're not immortal - the sooner you realize this the better (don't take anything for granted; dream big!)
2. You'll never be happy doing something you don't enjoy
3. You'll never get rich (wealthy) working for someone else

In case you're wondering, I sell real estate. Unlike the problems our friends in the US are experiencing, the real estate market in western Canada is great

I don't mean to downplay anyones success but a 40-50 even 60 thousand dollar car is not really a big deal. 100k+ that's another story.
