Issue with shock, split
My rear shock is split at the boot, or that's at least what I would call it. See pic. Half of the foam boot and the hard plastic cover are hanging down.
It rides fine, no idea how long it has been like this. I've had the car for only 10k mi. It's a 09 335xi w 65,000 mi How long till this causes an issue, if at all? I raised the plastic cover back up to the shock and taped it. Won't last forever but better than leaving it... Let me know what you think. I guess it's time for a suspension upgrade. |

The cover just came unstuck from the bumpstop. It isn't a big deal. Look under there with the car on the ground and you will see it still covers the shock rod. If your shock is still good you can order a new bumpstop assy (May as order both sides) and swap it out. It is super easy to do.
Now, if you were looking for a reason to mod/upgrade...the shock is toast!! Get that thing swapped out ASAP

Yours has done similar mileage to mine(71k). Recently I discovered a front shock was leaking & as I was going to lower the car on Eibach pro springs anyway decided to replace all shocks & bump stops at the same time. Once removed I found all shocks not rebounding & 3 of the 4 bump stops needed replacing.
Replacement Sachs shocks without the BMW badge can be bought online for half the price of the dealers, certainly over here in UK anyway. |
