Exploding/rocketing beer bottle

Earlier today I'm working on my computer when I hear a loud bang on the other side of my house (I am the only person home). I look everywhere and finally find the culprit in the pantry. The beer had apparently exploded out of the box it was in, rocketing up to the next shelf and then falling onto the wood floor. This is a Sierra Nevada IPA that I bought at Costco a couple months ago. Wondering what causes this, because if I wasn't home this would have ruined my new wood floors. Should be said that although the Pantry isn't climate controlled, the temps in there only vary a few degrees during the day (68-74F).

Yeast continually eating sugars creating co2 causing pressure = exploding bottles.

Happens with bottle conditioned beers.

Could've been too much sugars added or the yeast strain or combo of both.

You could always take a bottle back and they will or should be able to send out to test that batch of brew.

I'm drinking a Victory hop ticket session IPA. It's tasty

Plus if the neck of the bottle is still sealed, you should be able to get a replacement as store breakage.

What a tragic loss of a good IPA. Sad.

I contacted the company early today and the rep was very cool. Is going to send me a check for the entire 24pk that I bought and was more than willing to pay for any damages.. Luckily there weren't any! He was also very concerned with why this happened, so is sending me a box to send the defective batch back to them so they can figure out what happened.. I like to see company's take a proactive stance on the quality of their products.. They have definitely kept me as a customer..

That's almost exactly what I would have expected them to do. Problem is, if this isn't a one off case for you, they could potentially cause a lot of damage or injury and would like to know why/if it is happening. Glad they took care of you though.
