You probably can if you use a different email/payment method. Actually, it might be linked to your phone #.

I am not a fan of Uber. They seem to think they don't have to follow any "rules". Companies in the transportation business, be it airlines, buses, taxis, limos, etc have to be licensed and follow regulations. Uber claims they are not a taxi company, but a service connecting people with rides by drivers who are independent contractors. By this arrangement, Uber believes they don't have to follow the regulations regular taxi companies do, like price gouging for example.

Here in Denver, some people have been gouged with "surge rates" during busy nights of the year.
http://www.9news.com/story/news/loca...lars/18360907/

Uber also takes advantage of their drivers by not classifying them as employees. Being independent contractors, the drivers incur all the expenses of fueling and maintaining their vehicles which would usually be covered by the business if they were actual employees. In addition to the fare, Uber even collects a portion of any gratuity given to a driver for themselves. There are already some lawsuits about this.
http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/...TAI/story.html

Uber has also told drivers they can't work for competitors. Again, being independent contractors, they should be able to work for whomever.
http://money.cnn.com/2014/08/04/technology/uber-lyft

Other recent Uber news also raises red flags. They want to go after and dig up dirt on journalists critical of their practices.

Here's a case of them tracking a reporter.

^ so don't use it... it's not replacing taxis - it's a competitive alternative. Surge pricing is a genius idea - get a taxi if you don't like it.

Uber is AMAZING in DC.

I don't give a shit what's wrong with Uber and the fucks willing to drive me around, I was more than happy to get a $15 Uber ride, compared to my fucking $150 cab ride with the Arabic guy that stopped for a damn gyro.

Yeah I was going to point some of this out. My son used them all the time in the city since it works kids in college. He said most all the drivers he has used are using limos. He said it appears these guys work for limo companies and when they do not have pickups they jump on to uber and see if they can pick up a few rides to fill in the gap in the day. Not sure if their limo company knows what they are doing.

It is a good idea buy these guys did not think this through. I know around us yellow cap plans to have their own apps and compete against Uber in the same way.

Also my son a number of time the driver do not seem to have clue where they are going, he has to pull out his iphone and give them directions. Since it flat rate he does not care if they get lost, but he said a few time it told them a lot longer to get where they needed to be.

I don't because they are a very shady company. I'm not against competition, it's always a good thing. I understand charging higher rates during peak times, they aren't the first business to do this. However, their surge pricing (at least in the cases I read) is ridiculous and excessive. How is charging more than 7 times the regular rate acceptable?

I'm actually kind of surprised by this, because all of my Uber fares have been at least 5x cheaper than anything I've paid in a cab.

7x?? The largest rate multiplier I have seen in DC is ~3.4x. The worst my normally 12mi/$26 Uber home has been was ~$48 at peak time.

Yeah, pretty crazy. Here are the cases that happened in Denver:
http://www.9news.com/story/news/loca...lars/18360907/

This article lists a case where someone was charged $710 for a 9 mile ride:
