Question Android Tablets

Does anyone own an Android Tablet that they absolutely love? Pros, cons? I'm thinking of getting one to toy around with and wanted to get opinions on various tablets that you guys own.

Screen quality, screen responsiveness, and battery life are important factors to me.

had the Asus Eee Pad Transformer running on Android 3.1, i got it mainly for reading e-books, its flash capabilities and the keyboard (with extra battery that makes the total battery life of the tablet 16 hours when used in combination with the keyboard). I have since then sold it and bought an iPad2. The screen was not as responsive as the ipad2, its not as user friendly...and simply does not have enough apps available to keep me entertained. However, it is highly customizable if you root it (e.g. you can overclock it, etc). It was rumored the Android Market will surpass the App Store in the short term...but I doubt that. Between the two, I enjoy the the iPad2 a little bit more. If you are looking for an Android tablet, you should consider the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, I've played with it for a bit and it seems faster than my Asus, the form factor was amazing (slimmer and lighter than iPad2). The quality of the Asus was disappointing in my opinion, but the Asus (and the Samsung) both have a better screen (and other various hardware components) than the iPad2 though. Ultimately, it was the lack of apps for the Android that I made the switch.

That samsung looks a beast, but if i were to go non-ipad i'd want to get some real additional functionality like an sd card, Toshiba has that but it's a bit more bulky than the ipads/samsungs which makes no sense to me because every freakin phone has an sd card slot but most of the tablets dont

I'd be okay with 10" or 7" screens.

Thanks ac1208 for the review on the EEE Pad. I actually was looking at that one on Amazon.com.

Well I guess the next question would be whether or not you want a WiFi only tablet, or a tablet that relies on a carrier...?

Isn't it possible to root your android internet-connected phone to allow it to allow it to tether the internet connection to your tablet?

Yes, but that will drain your phone's battery.

@OP: If your looking for a Wifi only tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the best option imo.

+1

As much as I hate Samsung, the GTab is what I would suggest as well.

Okay I've narrowed it down to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (per the suggestion of this forum), the Dell Streak, and someone at my office told me about the Vizio tablet. Thanks for the honest input!

Why? Is Dell generally known for not being as high quality as Samsung?

It would be nice if HTC actually put their hat in the ring. I've always been impressed with their quality and update lag compared to Samsung, but it looks like the only good offerings down the pike are of the carrier variety. Specifically, the LTE Puccini/Jetstream looks to be a real killer and should be out shortly (3.1 OS, 1.5GHZ dual core, 1GB RAM, WXGA).

Agreed. Would love to see an upgraded version of their Flyer with Android 3.1.

what are you planning to do with it?

it comes down to flash browsing vs a larger app store

ipad 1
ipad 2

tried the galaxy for a few weeks. but i returned it due to having apps on the ipad already.
the samsung 10.1 is nice, but i would just get the cheaper of the 2.

Well, it comes down to more than that, but those are two of the most obvious points. It's all subjective. I like tinkering, so the GTab would be my choice if it was only between iOS and Android.

FWIW, it's most useful to get some seat time in a 10" and then seat time in a 7". This seems to be the biggest fork in the road when choosing which tablet (aside from the "am I a Crapple fanboi or a Fandroid guy?" which usually can answer the question right off the bat). For me and several others I know, the 7" just suits my needs much better than the 10". The 10" is better for others.

OP what cell phone do you use?

I use a Droid X. I love it so far.

I'm going to go to Costco after I get out of the office and check out the Vizio tablet. It's supposed to be 8".

To be honest, I'm not buying one for browsing, movies, etc. I'm buying one to develop apps for, and I want to get a feel for the size of the screen, speed, screen responsiveness, etc.
