I dont know why this car does nothing for me. I'm so over this muscle car stuff. : / I was obsessed with the Challenger but not anymore. Maybe b/c they will be everywhere. Seeing it at Avis or Hertz would anger me.

It seems Chevy has been on its game lately, but at 3741-3780 lbs for the v6, 3860-3917 lbs for the ss, it's a houseboat.

Will it require Coast Guard registration and life preservers under every seat? ; -)

There are a lot of people who say the same thing about the 135i. It's pretty heafty for it's size at nearly 3400lbs. Cars are just getting heavier with all the safety equipment (we're probably hauling around 100lbs of airbags and related equipment), and stiffening required for good ratings. The only way around it is to throw money at them with lighter materials, but you're not going to get that in a car at this price range.

Reader’s digest version:
LS is the base V-6 with 300hp, cloth seats, steel wheels etc.
LT1 gives you 18” alloys, fog lamps and a few other things
LT2 gives you leather, 19” rims, Bluetooth, 9 speaker stereo and lots of other stuff

SS1 V-8 with 422hp (or 400hp if you get the auto) cloth seats, brembos, 20” rims, Sat radio and tons of other stuff
SS2 is the same as LT2 but for the SS, leather stereo, etc.

RS package gets HIDs, Halos, spoiler, dark gray rims and other stuff (available on the LT!, LT2 or SS)

Basically the SS2 is loaded except for the sunroof or if you want stripes or accessories like headers and exhaust.

Head’s up display like the Corvette won’t be available until spring/summer 2010 though.

An SS2 with stripes, sunroof and couple of other things I want is coming up under the base price of a 135. And you just know after a year or so you can get these for invoice easy. So 33k or less. If that’s the case I may just spend 1-2k on a custom Alcantara interior.

The only thing that will kill it for me is if handles like a pig which I don’t think it will. 900 more lbs will take some getting used to over my RX8. That’s why I still have the 135 on the list, not too heavy but fast and agile.
Thanks for the intel design. Looks good, but it probably isn't what the wife and I are looking for in a second vehicle.

6.0L

I don't have the timeslips any more. It's been three years ago, and I threw out all the stuff that was left when I sold the car.

Check the Stock Class in this thread if you'd like to see some numbers and timeslips.

http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106613

You'll see several cars in the 12s bone stock, but there are a lot that aren't listed there as well. All it took was decent weather. There also weren't a lot of GTO owners who spent a lot of time drag racing that left their cars stock for long.

I actually have one of these on order .. 2SS/RS .... I think the potential of the LS3 will help balance out the weight of the car.

EDIT: Aggressive pricing, but if it can't break into the 12s, I don't see it as worthwhile over anything else in the pricerange.

I'd be willing to bet you will see these running high 12's at about 110 - 112 mph ...

well considering the recent Camaro's had a v6 or v8 option, it's proof to GM that it would be more wise to just make a head cam factory option like they did in the ls1/ls6 in the vette's.... the g8 uses a L76 motor which is a combo of both older ls2 block and newer heads...

so long as it comes with the ls3 i'll be happy, IMO the Camaro is already a better choice than the 135i...

I ordered one yesterday. Silver/black SS w/RSS package and black hockey/hood stripe. Plan to tint the windows and powder coat the wheels black.

Congrats. You can count on a solid 25WHp gain with nothing but a tune, and more than 50WHP over stock with headers and a tune. It should be a damn fast car. I still miss the way my GTO pulled on the highway. From 100MPH on it would kill my 135i even with the SSTT and downpipes. 4th gear on those cars was just unreal, and I would imagine the Camaro will have about the same gearing.

Should definitely be a fun car with a few boltons. If GM did a good job on the suspension I could see the handling being OK... My 03 Cobra was one of the most fun cars I've ever owned, and if the camaro captures that spirit, it will be a winner. I'm just a little concerned about the weight, and the posted stock 1/4th mile numbers..

I think I see how you are going through it in your mind. A Camaro with an LS3! LT headers, intake, a RevExtreme tune... Life is short go for it! You'll be back at the new Moroso power shifting into racing heaven all the while accompanied by the thunder of a fire breathing LS3!

You'd be wrong. I don't "long for" anything. I enjoy my 135i every bit as much. I just get seriously sick of hearing people on forums with little or no first hand ownership experience talk about GM cars. Just like any other manufacterer they have their flaws, but GM currently offers the best "bang for the buck" BY FAR in several different catagories.

Spare me the attitude.

I wasn't specifically talking about you, which should have been obvious considering that you only have two posts in the entire thread.

When I said attitude, I was talking about YOURS. Remember the thread where you accused me of "pushing a domestic agenda"? How exactly is buying a BMW pushing a domestic agenda? :iono:

Its a very hard choice IMO. I was 100% sure about getting a manual 135i until I joined Camaro5 forum. Then I was set on the Camaro SS/RS manual 422hp. A couple friends prefer the Camaro, while my son changed his mind when he drove a 135i 3 days ago. He said get the 135i it KICKS ASS. I can't argue. The thing about the Camaro I like it it should be bullit proof, corvette engine, trans, no turbo's etc. But its a big heavy car. I asked my son which should I get? He said, " Do you want a fast big car, or do you want a small fast car? I think I prefer a small fast go-kart, and thats what the 135i is. Sure the Camaro should handle great, but it is BIG. ??? The price of the Camaro will be much less then a 135i so thats a factor I need to consider. Plus I really need to drive one b4 considering the 135i. Need to really compare as far as feel not just numbers.

Yea i was on the fence to order the camaro also.
The .9% financing, free maintance and $$ off MSRP was the clincher.

The camaro will be hard to find for MSRP, wont be out till like may or june, first year run of an american car.

Here is a really cool price chart for the camaro.

Very much true! The SS Camaro is the King of Muscle and BMW is the King of Performance and they both offer a lot of similarities... Im buying the 135i just cause i want something smaller but drive both and pick from there.. overall they both Amazing Beasts!
