Anyone stayed in St. Pete?

I need a little break, so my boyfriend and I were looking to take a short trip, maybe three days. We looked into Key West because we've never been there but it's super expensive for what you get. We've been out on the west coast to Tampa, Siesta Key, and Clearwater but we've never been to St. Petersburg. I was looking up hotels on hotels.com and the prices are much more reasonable. Has anyone stayed in the area and would recommend a hotel? I was looking at this one -

http://www.hotels.com/property.do?pr...Key=1&CIDay=27 -

for $209 a night and it looks spectacular and really too good to be true for that price. Has anyone been there? I'm really looking forward to this trip, I definitely need a breather before I start the next half of summer classes. I think we'll go to Bush Gardens, I've never been there either and I've heard it's really fun.

Nikki,

I am actually from Sarasota/Tampa....anywhere on St Pete beach will be lovely. After you go to Busch Gardens make sure you have enough energy to hit YBOR CITY. 7th Ave is full of fun places to dance and meet people.

And you link did not work...I got some German hotels??!

How about staying in Fort Myers? You can take a ferry from there (or from Marco Island) and spend the afternoon in Key West.

I've never been to St. Petersburg but I'd like to visit. I'd imagine it gets kinda cold in russia...but probably not around this time of the year.

Sorry, dumb joke, I know!

Stay at the Tradewinds or Sirata Beach (owned by the same company and approximately 1/2 mile apart. They are on St. Pete Beach. I live here and wouldn't steer you wrong.

I looked up the Sirata and that looks great. It's less than $200/night for beach or gulf view. Thanks for the advice

Not a big fan of the west coast. I do like the quieter spots like Marco and Sanibel Island.
I like contrast from SE FL when going west on Alligator Alley.

I've been to Siesta Key and that was beautiful. Very quiet, not much to do there. I love Clearwater so much, have you been there? It is pretty touristy but there is so much to do and the beach is still perfectly white and pretty. I don't think the sand here on the east coast really compares. Here's a photo I took from our hotel in Clearwater, oh I can't wait.

Ybor nightlife was good in the 90's, but not now. Too many wackos. It is nice during the day for eating, comedy club, and the movies. Sometimes they have lives bands as well.

I most definitely recommended Sheikra at Busch Gardens. Its a blast.

Have fun!!!

Never been to Clearwater. Which hotel is that, seems like a nice place. There is so much of FL I haven't explore. What really intrigues me about the west coast beaches is the quietness. The Gulf of Mexico must have some of the smallest, almost no waves I've seen and heard (no hurricanes in the gulf of course). When combined with very light traffic of people, makes for a surreal beach that seems all to yourself.

The only part you got right was the NO WAVES. LOL Quietness and light traffic, there no such thing. I work in Clearwater, I know.

We stayed at the Hilton. Yeah Clearwater isn't quiet but it's definitely pretty and there's lots of fun things to do.

True, must be use to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale beaches, anything else is quieter.
I was more talking about smaller cities on the west like Bonita Springs, Naples, etc.
