Ticket at 101mph in NYC, any thoughts?

A friend of mine just got pulled over doing 101.

He's a nice guy, but just unfortunately did something pretty dumb.

Has anyone been in this situation in NYC before?

Other stories or valid advice would be helpful! I'm just trying to see what a likely outcome would be.

It's possible to do that speed in NYC? Figured with traffic and horrible roads it would be impossible.

But that's tough. I'd suggest getting a lawyer if he intends on appealing at all.

not sure about NYC, but 100+ is considered "Reckless Driving" and a misdemeanor in many states. regardless, tell your friend to get a lawyer

Get a team of lawyers. NYC isnt known for letting people off tickets. Also in NY over 100 becomes reckless driving. Theres a pretty good chance hes looking at a suspension, especially if the speed limit was below 50.

i think i remember reading somewhere though that NYPD does not negotiate tickets in the same way you can elsewhere in the State, but not sure exactly if that is true or how it works. lawyer would help, for sure.

seriously though, over 100 in the city... where?!

I'm guess it was on the West Side Hwy?

Either way, it's been said 9 times already, but he needs a lawyer, and not the advice of a car forum.

What's lucky is that he didn't hurt anybody, including himself. He could use some jail time to grow up.

Right on. The traffic courts in NYC/LI are notoriously stacked against defendants.
The best outcome for your friend is to get a lawyer and hope for not getting a suspension. The highest speed limit in city proper is 50mph. Being 40+ mph over is instant suspension.

That being said, it IS possible to go triple digit in the city... rather well into triple digit indeed. At this point I claim the Fifth.

Your friend won't stand a chance.
Not in NYC.
Funny how they ask you if you would just plead guilty and pay less fine and not meet the prosecutors. Once you tell them you would like to meet the prosecutor, you are done, unless you have really fine legitimate reason for your charges, you won't stand a chance.

Did his car get impounded?
I heard people get their cars impounded and get a suspension with that kind of speed.
