School me on ceiling fans
So I'm in the market for a ceiling fan for a ~300sq/ft living room with a 12ft ceiling. At first I was looking at these normal ones that cost roughly $100-300usd then I came across a big ass fan. Literally Big Ass Fan (google it). So they have this really cool looking big ass industrial style fan that my wife and I really love (8ft wide) but they are charging roughly $2600, basically 10x the price of a normal ceiling fans.
Anyone got any recommendations? I know its ridiculous but after seeing their fan, I really can't look at any other ones. I've even searched for knockoffs in china but no luck. Help me save $2600.

As brands go, as far as i can remember, Hunter was the #1 fan maker.
Hunter or go home...........However, since then, i couldn't tell you if it still holds truths.

There are good ceiling fans based on style of your choice at local Lowes and Home Depot. Some of those look exactly similar to industrial fans.
$2000+ for ceiling fan is little too much, and you should also consider the weight of the fan on a ceiling as well. Even those $400 contemp or modern looking fan might be a great choice. 12ft ceiling would look great with 1 to 1.5ft drop pole. I did my ceiling fan inside our room, but our family room ceiling was 18ft, so we had to hire a guy I know for $100. (Home depot quoted about $300ish due to the height). Room $105 total including accessories. Self installed Family Room $155 ish. paid $100 to install due to high ceiling. Quote:

Yuen Long. The structure behind my profile pic is the 20'x15' 12ft ceiling I'm referring to. Gets quite hot during the these summer days.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'm gonna refrain from purchasing one of these big ass fans after I slept on it. Come to think of it, I haven't even spent more than $2600 on a single item in the house.
Thing is, ceiling fans generally get pricey once they pass the 8foot mark. The living room looks like this more or less and the fan just looks badass with it.

A Big Ass Fan is more than just a fan. Definitely worth the money. Not sure how the rest of your pad looks, but once you have Rolf Benz couches and B&B furniture, it would be tough to put a $99 Home Depot fan in there. It's a design piece, and you'll spend good money on those.

I hate the look of ceiling fans. Couple that with my particular tastes in wanting contemporary/modern but not so outlandish where the ceiling fan looks like a UFO. It took me months of searching until I finally found a ceiling fan I liked. It's from Quorum and called the Telstar. I was also able to get this fan in white so it just blends in with my ceiling. I've had it for about 10 years and it's still running great and dead quiet.
http://quoruminternational.com/index...duct=600525-16 As far as the Big Ass Fan, I've seen one in person. It's their industrial model in a company I visit frequently for work. They have it in their very large warehouse area. The owner said the fan is stupid expensive but he said it has immediately provided a return on his investment where conditioning the warehouse costs much less now. He's now able to maintain a consistent temperature there which is important when you're dealing with computer hardware. |

I've got a 52" emerson curva in stainless and I love it. It runs completely silent and has a sleek look. Believe it costs between 300-350.

Yeah the Haiku's not bad. Selling at around $900 but I'd prefer if it was a tad bigger.

Funny, minutes ago I was just looking at their mailer. I literally just sent in my information to get the free "big ass mug". Promo code MPEN514 if interested.
I have nothing to add except for this. |

That was the exact one I went to first, I have to agree it looks great, and I think it looks better since it look different than all the one everyone sees in the big box stores. If price was not an issue I would consider it for our master bedroom were are currently remodeling as we have 13 ft ceilings and the room is 22 x 15 and it this would look great. but not going to spend $2600 on it. I have seen their fans for a long time in warehouses so they been around a long time, I think home design are new. I was about to say Grease Monkey has them and go figure they have a picture of the Grease Monkey shop. I know how you feel since we are doing sliding style barn doors and I found mechanism which were made in German and cost $1500 a set, lucky for me I found Chinese knockoffs for under $200. Anyway I came across another 8ft fan from Fanimation called the Odyn. Its significantly cheaper and looks at least similar to the BAF one for only...wait for it...$999. Too bad this one is only 110v.

^^^That one does look pretty good. I may consider getting one so I can move my existing Quorum Telstar fan into my office and use that one in the sun room.
