[Help] E90 320i FRM3 not responding after NCSEXPERT coding

My friend's car is 2011/3 E90 LCI 320i and it was reprogrammed 2 weeks ago because the radio buttons were worn out and the dealer changed
the radio unit and reprogrammed for him.

I coded his car for X 6 turn indicator last week. I had no problem to code it. But the folding mirror by key fob was lost. So, he asked me to do it again.
I changed the relative parameters in FRM3 and coded it. After that, the FRM3 was down, though The coding was success. A jack stand sign shown up on the cluster. This is abnormal. I then tried to read the FRM3 in NCSEXPERT, but it was not responding.

So, I borrowed an ICOM and ISTA/P, and tried to restore it. But the ISTA/P is V48.3 which is older than the car I Level as it was reprogramed by the dealer two weeks ago, and I think the I-Level of his car is newer than V48.3. So, we brought it to the dealer for reprogramming. But today is weekend, they did not have enough resource today and will
do it next Monday.

I think the FRM3 is not bricked (Hope so) and the ICOM should be able to recover it back. Here is my question, is the ICOM + ISTA/P the only way to make it alive if it is not dead.

Below are some background and what I did for his car today

1. 2011/3 E90 LCI 320i
2. The firmware of FRM3 is FRM3_E89.C32
3. Steps I did
a. Read NFRM in NCSEXPERT
b. Disassemble FRM3_E89.C32
c. Change 002F(03) to 002F(FF) of "MIND_ANZ_ZYKL_TIPP_BLK"
PARZUWEISUNG_PSW1 : 002F (FF) // wert_02
d. Save it
e. Assemble it back
f. Changed the following parameters in Dummy
. ASP_KOMFORT_EINKLAPP (Nicht_aktiv -> Aktiv)
. TAGFAHRLICHT_ECE_0 (aktiv -> Nicht_Aktiv)
. TAGFAHRLICHT_ECE_1 (aktiv -> Nicht_Aktiv)
. TAGFAHRLICHT_ECE_2 (aktiv -> Nicht_Aktiv)
. TAGFAHRLICHT_ECE_3 (aktiv -> Nicht_Aktiv)
. WL_AL (Nicht_aktiv -> Aktiv)
. WL_NSW (Nicht_aktiv -> Soft_einschalten)
g. Change the job to SG_CODIEREN
h. Execute

Helps. Is there any way to get the FRM3 back except using ICOM + ISTA/P

IMO you couldn't brick FRM module. ISTA will fix it, I'm pretty sure, but maybe you can first try to reprogramm FRM3 with winkfp, or maybe did you try it already?

Your Sp-daten is updated to the 49 version?
INPA is communicating with Footwell Module? Or you only did try with NCS Exper? What version of softwares do you use?

I used my friend's ISTA/P and tried to recovered it. But the daten is older than the car. So, we sent it to the dealer and according to what the dealer said, the module has no response. So, they used ISTA/P to program it. The FRM 3 module accepted it but the programming aborted at about 50%. So, they suggested to replace a new one.

Frankly, I do not think it is dead. But I have no skill to get it back as I did not backup the whole car ZB number at beginning. So, I have no idea about the module ZB module. If I knew the ZB number, I would properly force Winkfp to flash it and I might be able to get it back.

Current status is, we changed a new module and programmed by ISTA/P. I have the "Dead" module in hand.

I would try to use NFS emergency flash to repair it. I'm pretty sure that it is big change to bring it back to life. Dealer always want to replace the part and they have to use original software only, so many time they are not able to do some things.

I don't have tutorial how to use it, but I'm going to make some video e.g. "how to use NFS emergency flash". It is not so difficult.

Can you connect any other modules? If yes your FRM3 is dead. If no, it's a generic problem with cable / software setup.

Unhook the battery for an hour or so. Then do a SG_RESET and SG_CODEREIN with an empty PSW.MAN file. This will code in no programing and the FRM module will query the car for default settings itself. Then go in and re-code your options.

It's most likely bricked. What were you doing before you couldn't connect to it? Were you using a power supply?

Check FRM fuses F36, F41, F52, F56 (check with the latest repair information to confirm fuse numbers). See if any are blown...

How long does coding/repairing one of these take?
