Totalled 750li

Here is my buddies 06 750LI he just totalled getting rear-ended by a superduty truck. 65MPH at a dead stop and he walked away with minimal injusries. Thought I would post and share.

That actually doesn't seem to be THAT bad considering it was 65mph. That's pretty damn fast, especially while stopped.

Is he getting the same car again or something different?

Funny you ask...
He did get a brand new 07 Black on Black 750LI with 21" Beautiful!!
But, 2 days after he picked it up he noticed spots all over his roof, hood, front bumper and both doors. He was puzzled as there were deeeeeep pits in the clear and spots that couldn’t be removed with compound, clay or wax. So he just brought it in this week to Vista Motors and they wet sanded the entire car. They said it was ACID rain...BS. Looks like hydraulic fluid or something very detergent sat on the paint for awhile. NO LUCK with the wet sanding. They butchered the paint. Yes they removed most the spots but left deep scratches from sanding. He is pretty pissed at this point and is getting ANOTHER NEW 750LI.

Sux for buying a $90k car.

Haha acid rain on a new car? Boy were they trying to pull the wool over his eyes. Maybe if we lived on Mercury or Venus...

Yeah once it penetrates the clear it is pretty much pointless because you'd have to take so much off it would get down to the paint anyways. The only way would be to take the clear off and repaint. Usually when you go down past the clear it's too easy to damage the paint. Work that shouldn't be needed on a new car.

Glad he's getting another one. The black/black one sounds even better than the one that was wrecked.

Yes insurance covered everything. But, it sux he is paying 1300 a month to drive a loaner X3 while the first one was being totalled out and the second one was being wet sanded.

Actually, if you look closely, it is a pretty serious structural damage. The distance between the lower bumper and the rear boot is quite significant. Looks like it had been squashed like a melon.

I am amazed the driver walked away without a whip-lash.

Reminds me of when I got rear-ended in my '88 Toyota Corolla by a '74 Cadi @50mph. My Corolla was in REALLY bad shape...

force = mass * acceleration, right?
i'm no physicist (& didn't sleep @ a holiday inn express), but it seems like a 3-ton truck @ 65 mph should have done much more damage.

but, that's irrelevant. glad to hear your friend's okay.
