Credit Rich, sense poor

I started toying with the idea of getting a 3rd car so I decided to start by looking at lease assumptions for a good deal. Now I’ve leased a few cars before, including BMW, so I’ve learned a thing or two about leases. What I saw just astounded me. My only question for 99% of the people listing on these lease assumption sites is “what the hell where you thinking???”
Example: 335 - $867 / 1200 mi per month 34 payments remaining on a 36 month term – ya, let me take that mistake off your hands buddy
How about an 06 IS250 with 630 a month / 1200 mi , 48 months payments left on a 60 month lease. Those payments alone equal out to more then the car is worth, at there’s still a residual at the end.

For what it’s worth, I think many of these guys are first time leasers buying on impulse, and I think these sales guys see them coming from a long way off. I absolutely think that’s the case with the 335 example I saw. First time leaser for sure.

Leases are not as great as many here are trying to make others (themselves?) believe. They have a time and place. What’s important is to remember that these dealerships are not the least bit concerned with your fiscal well being. They’re not going to steer you towards the smart sensible choice. They’re going to fleece you if you let them, and apparently there’s still plenty of suckers out there to fleece.

yeah, browse those sites and you'll quickly discover some of those guys were really bigtime. But you never know some other dumb@$$ will probably assume the lease. That lexus lease is just ...

Lexus salesman are insane fucks. I went in there before I went to BMW and he totally tried to screw me on a IS 250 AWD. For a 36/mo, 15k/yr lease they wanted 6k out of pocket, try to give me 7k for my car that was worth 10k(what BMW gave me) and a payment of $460/mo. I still owed $7,300 on my car so I was obviously using the above as my tax and title junk.

I laughed in the guys face. So he says, "let me see what else I can do". Comes back with a counter of $5,800 out of pocket, 8k for the car, and a $431/mo payment. I again laughed and he said that was the best they could do. I told him if he could find anyone dumb enough to take that "deal" to call me. I heard from him once more and told him to call me just before the next sales event, never heard from him.

I was sold on the IS mainly cuz I thought a BMW was just far enough out of reach. I thought wrong. A better deal and I'd have one right now. Lexus f'd up, not that I'm saying I would have been a life customer but I loved my Toyota Celica GT-S, so maybe I would have. Oh well, I don't mind, I'm a BMW lifer now haha.

Leasing is a complete rip-off. I was looking at leasing a 3series for my GF, went to dealership after dealership, including what everyone on this forum were paying and if you look at how much 3-series cars that are 3 years old with the type of mileage on them after a 3-year lease are going for you realize that if you lease a car between what you pay a month plus what the car is then sold for after the lease is up, someone is getting more than MSRP for the car when all is said in done. I will NEVER LEASE, just out of principle.

Mesier,

its all in the deal. I leased a 2001 330ci. I purchased the car at the predetermined buy out after 3 years. I turned around and made $5k on the sale.

leasing is VERY good for a business person who can turn around and write the lease off as a business expense
