It looks like the removal of the FRIC systems hasn't changed the order much but it has bunched up the field rather closely. We'll see what the real pace is come qualifying.

Question for you all: Whiting says FRIC violates tech reg 3.15 (adjustable body work that influences aerodynamics). Doesn't DRS do that as well??

http://www.formula1.com/inside_f1/ru.../8695/fia.html
Well, first DRS was sanctioned by the FIA for a while already. Only the DRS flaps, and front wing angle (can be adjusted to a certain degree during pit stop by crew member) are adjustable during the race. Any other bodyworks shall be remain fixed.

To understand why Charlie Whiting said FRIC was considered violate tech reg 3.15. We must understand how it works.

From my previous post explaining the fundamentals of FRIC. Which by the natural momentum of the car during braking, acceleration, and turning. Which moved hydraulic fluids to different parts of shock absorber to adjust the damping.

Which stabilize the cars rakeangle , i.e. maintain an optimum pitch angle during braking and acceleration. Thus stabilize the cars aerodynamic performance from the undertray and allows team to run the car on a lower ride height.

So for example by comparing the car's front wing dips down during braking, with and without FRIC. Charlie Whiting determines that the passive ride height control interferes with the natural movement of the bodywork. Thus violates tech reg 3.15.

IMO, it does not. And its horrible that they decide to ban it (or teams unanimously not using) mid-season. If FIA scruitneering determines FRIC equipped cars are legal in previous races, then it should be legal for such system for the rest of the season.

If they want to ban it, like F-Duct, being banned the season after. Now its like telling a winning team "oh you have a nice toy, i'll take away from you, so other kids would enjoy too". (Bad example)

Thanks for the clarification @e90slam
While I understand the dynamics I do not agree in its violation (also agree with you there), I get the "cost cutting measures" that this also falls under. Apparently some teams questioned the system while working on their 2015 cars and that's what prompted Whiting to take a closer look. FRIC has been around for quite some time as well. So what? We put an asterisk next to those wins? While I do t believe it would've affected MBZ's current dominance it COULD call in to question their wins this far....mid-season changes like this are a mess and THAT should be banned!
Make it "illegal" with 2015 regs and 2015 season.

Hamilton into the wall with brake failure.

It seems for every good result he has, there's an equal bad luck result for him.

So it was a Brembo front disk failure for Lewis...a new set had been fitted for 3rd free practice. Looks like he will switch to a different manufacturer for the race, probably the same as Rosberg (Carbon Industrie).

Good race. Outstanding drives by Hamilton and Ricciardo and Bottas.

Dumbass move by Massa despite what he thinks. That was his fault, pure and simple.

Scary moment for Kvyat. You rarely see F1 cars burn like that these days.

My favorite moment was when RIC and RAI went side by side in the stadium corners. Some good driving in this race.

Feisty drivers up and down the field!!!
Good race overall.

But the end when Sutil spun out, no SC was a bit beyond me. I'd thought with the "safety first" mentality nowadays. Race Control would've send a SC out first.

German driver in a big lead in a German car at the German Grand Prix, gonna take a lot to bring out the SC. Better risk the life of drivers and Marshalls it seems. Good race other than that. I prefer when the SC isn't needed but this time it should have been deployed.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist but the only reason the SC wasn't deployed was to ensure Hamilton didn't have a chance to pass Rosberg and win the race by bunching up the field. A blatant disregard for the safety of the race marshalls just to ensure a German won the German GP. Disgusting.

Actually this time I'm pretty happy with the time safety car on the track, where only lasted only two laps. Granted all cars were lined up already and marshalls acted quickly to remove Massa's Williams.

Unbelievable until you realized who was leading and where they were. No way was the SC going to be deployed at that stage. If ever one needed to be deployed it was then!

That we do! Unfortunately Lewis you should have stayed quiet. Get ready for several 4-5 second pit stops this weekend!
