For everyone else's info, an IB install benefits from more surface area as it keeps down distortion. I bet it gets plenty loud before the subs even start to physically move much. There is no other setup where you can have a flat response between 20 and 100+ Hz.

If I'm going to embark on an install and thinking about IB or an enclosure where do I start?

I think he had a pretty nicely documented thread up on his IB install.

It does have me wondering if I can somehow figure out a way to do a mini IB install using my rear deck and some 6" subs, or possibly 8" subs, but I doubt I'll ever get to the point to pull the trigger on that expense

The 3 levels offered by MusicarNW are a good starting point. People (Ken and Tom) who know a thing or two about audio and installation put those levels together.
