Never understood people that do that either. Thousands of people daily see your plates. What honestly can someone do with your lp#???| I've never heard of anything like that happening.

I am going to assume for any 5-0 monitoring boards? That would have to implicate you did something illegal though so why post anything in the first place right? Just a guess not fact.

For folks with exotic cars, this is done to keep thieves who target specific cars from finding your expensive exotic car on the web. It isn't that hard to get an address from a license plate, then they know exactly where to go to steal your car.

It is also easy in most states to get a name along with that address. If you get involved in flame wars, sometimes you don't know how unstable the folks on the other end of the flaming can be. Handing them a way to get your name and address might not be the best idea.

These days, people don't even need to go to the Gov't to get information on you from your license plate. A quick google search shows up a whole list of sites ready to hand over your personal information to whoever types in your license plate number.

Am I paranoid? Maybe. Maybe not. I think blacking out plates falls under prudent and safe. Paranoid would be forming LLC's to title your house, cars, etc to keep your personal information completely out of public records.

i stopped blacking mine out...esp since i am in nyc, and you will never know what garage i park in

i used to black mine out and tape it over at the auto x cuz mitsu was voiding warranty's and local subbie dealers were not honoring warranties for any cars they saw on the boards that were auto x'ing

As you said: security provided by Smith & Wesson. And it's very well insured...

I'm not blacking mine out. I respectfully hopes the Colonel calls the police if the person tries to steal his car...after he blows their head clean off.

When I post pictures of my KB on the net, I usually black-out my face...

Great story BTW.
