Anyone have a gun for safety??
My father and I were thinking about getting one to keep in the house or maybe in our cars, or both. We live in a good area but in Miami you never know what can happen, theres alot of crazy mofos out here. Does anyone have one for safety? If so what kind? And have you ever had to use it or show it to protect yourself or scare someone off that was threatening to you?

I have a few. A Beretta 9mm, a 1911 .45 (for old times sake), and I normally carry a Springfield Arms XD45.
I would recommend a revolver if you do not have much experience with firearms. You can't go wrong with a .38 small frame if you want to keep it in the car.

That may be the most idiotic statement I have seen you make.

Neurorad -- I laugh when people post charts without any analysis. In my line of work you would get fired for that.
So what is your analysis in relation to 'gun for safety' based off the chart you posted? None of the #1 killers was firearms. Did you shade the blocks? What's their significance? Did you do statistical analysis for race, gender, rate of ownership / occurrence per citizen, etc? When I'm 65, I hope I have one of those "help me I've fallen and I can't get up" devices. I have a Benelli M3 Super 90, Bushmaster AR15, H&K USP 9mm, a stun-rod, and a vicious wit. |

I thought it was clear enough from the chart (from the CDC,their colors), that guns are associated with death.
OT, but where do illegal guns come from? I never really thought about it. Certainly, most legal owners don't commit crimes (yes, they often do, but certainly nobody who drives a BMW; and nobody here on this board would commit suicide). I realized that they're stolen from legal owners, who keep them in their car or unlocked at home. Sorry, I forgot that NRA members are 'fanatical' about ownership. Feel the power, the cold steel. Must be really something to walk around like a big man, able to kill when you want to. Must be quite a rush. I think I've discovered the reason for the fanatacism, thinly veiled as a constitutional right. 'Yeah, I carry a gun for SAFETY, not because of psychology' Yes, I'm making fun of C&C. Why don't people obsess over the fourth, fifth, or sixth amendments, instead of the 2nd? |

Now even though I own firearms, I think owning a full-auto is ridiculous. There is no practical reason to possess such a weapon other then in the prosecution of war. And even such, the U.S. military has for the most part replaced full-auto inventory with 3-round burst. |

Seriously though, an M249 is akin to a 599. Do you need either? No. Are they a lot more fun to use than their more common and lower performance counterparts? Hell yes.

I know you're familiar with China, so why is it that China must open an AK-47 factory on the outskirts of Khartoum while al-Bashir wages a campaign of demographic 'reorganization' in Darfur? On a very basic level it's money, and where's there is a will (or buyer) there is a way to get arms into a country. |

For some it may be as basic as ego... owning a full-auto (Ferrari) to impress your friends. One round from a 9mm can have the same effect as a 30 rounds from an M249. |

2. If you're being neutral, why not post up the ample statistics about how many times guns are used to save life? Oh that's right, I forgot, because when those statistics get posted, no one believes them....and because the people who defended themselves are still alive. 3. The fourth, fifth and sixth amendment, contrary to popular belief, are not under the constant barrage of assaults that the second amendment is under. 4. NRA members are as fanatical about ownership as anti-gun fanatics are about banning them. And despite populist myth to the contrary, the vast majority of American citizens are vehemently opposed to banning guns.

If you want the best thing for home get a shotgun, with low recoil slugs and make sure you get a light for the shotgun. Its the best close quarters self defense weapon made period. If someone broke into my house its the first thing I would go for rather than any pistol. A pistol is only good for getting you to your shotgun or rifle.
And never shoot a rifle indoors you will be dazed beyond belief, hence the shotgun. |
