Edmunds reviews 535i - "nearly perfect"

http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpconta...7/pageNumber=1

"Each new application of BMW's wundermotor leaves us breathless."

If you look in the interior picture gallery, it looks like BMW moved the window switch back, in front of the grab handle on the passenger side armrest. I always thought the one in the E90 was too far forward. Now if they'd only move it back to the center console...

Great review. I really like the interior of the 5er, although I generally prefer a smaller car.

my father bought the 535xi and loves it. I love it too...very very nice car. Its not quite as quick as my 335xi, but the butt dyno knows no difference.

Hm ... I wonder why? The weight difference is minimal and the engine is the same ... Do you mean in straight line or around the corners?

I test drove it and I honestly couldnt find any flaws. The MPG could have been a tad bit better as well as the backseat room but that car is nice. Quick, agile, and looks even sexier than before.

Question: Why would anyone get a 550i? Not to take anything away from the 550i as someone in my family owns one, but if the 535 performs like the 550 and you can get the same options and is cheaper and gets better mileage, I don't see the point in getting the 550.

I always thought that the 535 would be as quick as the 550 I just thought you would need a piggyback unit to equal the performance, guess not.
It's funny I kinda felt that the 650i they gave us at the PCD didn't feel any quicker than my 335, I guess it isn't, based on this review of the 535i vs the 550i.

straight line and corners. Is the weight difference minimal? I wasn't aware.

The only problem with the 535 is it costs A LOT. Even the one they tested broke 61k.. a few more pennies and you get into the 550 range (which has nicer packages)

Well, my mom's looking to trade in her CLK55 for a new 5, and I suggested the 535i over the 550i for all the previously stated reasons. The ONLY reasons I can see as to why someone could want the larger engine:

1) 550i SPORT PACKAGE = AMAZING! Looks like a sleeker, better M5...yes...better looking. You have to see it in person. Front valance = awesomness.

2) To inflate one's ego. Really, I'm positive someone would buy this for that lil' badge on the back.

Agreed. The front fascia on the 550i is stunning. It's a HUGE improvement over the 6cyl 5's and the 5's before the mid-life change
