There have also been much more intersting rumours of an 'M' Version that would run an all-new 3.0 liter, high-revving, natually aspirated straight-six engine packing something like 315hp - 340hp. It may or may not be called the M1.

I am hoping that history repeats itself and that BMW Canada somehow gets models that guys stateside don't and that Canada receives the hatchback models!!!!! A 3-door hatchback M1 would be freakin' amazing!
I have read some speculation that the 1 series will weigh about 600 pounds less than the E92--so with those engines.....pretty exciting how much potential there would be...

Why all the hatred for the 1? It's new and retro at the same time. The front bumper going straight across reminds me of the E46. Pack in a 3.2L, and make a M1 with bulged flenders. This little car would be fun to mod.

I can't believe people are worried this will water down the brand.

Tell me you can't see baby M3 in this.

I have seriously decided to stop modding and will return my car when the lease is over...roughly 2008 november, just around the time of the 135i release hopefully!!!!

just look at that car! i see such potential! wow.

whoever calls it ugly wait till i put my hands on it and add a little touch of aggressiveness and it will be sick.

This little 1 could be to the E46 M3 what the old Opel GT was to the old Corvette.

Posers that buy good cars help keep good car builders profitable, which in turns allows them to keep making good cars. This is a good thing. This is why I don't object to Porsche (or BMW) selling trucks. If they need to do that to stay in business, then so be it. I just want them to still be around when I'm ready for another car.

As a fan of hot-hatches, I just wish they would bring over the 3 door version.

Why wouldn't more people buy it if the car comes out to be a looker and performs? People vote with dollars. Got a problem with people buying BMWs?

I don't see why some people are getting their panties in a bunch over the one series being priced less then a 3er. I think its great that they are finally bringing this car stateside. The 135 should be a very cool car.

Thats the attitude, I'm just glad BMW is coming out with more cars and BMW is bringing it to the States.

I'm very much excited by this car! It reminds me a lot of what the 3 series used to be (light, fun, reasonably affordable, toss-able cars). I like the new 3 enough to buy one, but after spending a weekend in an old E30 cabrio, the new 3 seems big, fat, heavy, and bloated. I think the 1er will be the true enthusiast BMW coupe.

Although very different platforms. There were new 128i Coupe pics posted yesterday too, with much less camo.

The new 1er coupe looks very much like the 2002 CS1 Concept.

1000000% agreed, I was flamed endlessly a month ago for posting a topic about it. Still many don't get it.

I think the difference here will be that the benz c-class hatch was a POS, and the 1 is being built on the E46 chassis, and from what they are saying its going to be coming with the choice of two great engines so I wouldn't really put this car in the same category as C hatch. They are saying that a 135 should cost 35k, its not some entry level piece of crap with a BMW badge on it. I wish there were more car enthusiasts on this forum, not just people who look down on everything that isn't a 3 series or higher in price tag.

Dood, this 1 looks like it will be seriously smoking fast and easy to mod...throw in light & tossable and finally a BMW that will not only

i) be fun as he!! to mod and drive, but

ii) get more (new) drivers hooked on BMW and

iii) throw a bone to the diehard e30 / 2002 fans.

Love my e92 335i w/ all of 450 miles so far, but it's a BIG FREAKING car compared to the old school 3...that 1er will def be fun and have a LOT of potential. I am not too worried about the F&F scene getting hold of it, esp if it is priced around 28-30k base...they would likely prefer the WRX STi or EVO XIV with obscenely large rear wing anyway...

Go BMW - Bring the small, powerful and FUEL_EFFICIENT 1er stateside!
