Formula 1 Grand Prix De Monaco 2011

Another back to back weekend!!!

Unfortunately I'll be out to vacation so the pics will be a bit delayed, and hopefully will find some bars near by will let me watch the race.

We will the Pirelli bringing their Super-Soft to Monaco and they're predicting a duration of just 6-7 laps!!! We've seen the new tires make many "boring" races exciting, and hopefully this will make Monaco, where usually overtaking is nearly impossible, a lot more actions and overtakes.

Another debate is, will the FIA designate or allow DRS to run on narrow streets of Monaco. GPDA current chairman Rubens Barrichello had expressed himself that it is extremely dangerous to allow DRS in Monaco. We will see!

Again, Practice Sessions 1 and 2 will be on Thursday!

have fun in your vacation!

cant believe 6-7 laps on the super soft, specially w/ the prime being the soft which has only been good for about 10-12 laps, we are looking at a whole lot of stop, should be fun

I think the cars are at risk of not having enough tires for the weekend. The free practice sessions will be pretty barren.

The Monaco GP is 78 laps!

I believe that they have a separate allocation for practice sessions? I don't think it overlaps with qualifying and the race.

Each driver gets 11 sets of Dry Weather tires allocated to them for the entire weekend for 2011. Of these 11, 8 can be used for Qualifying and Race. Which means 4 soft, and 4 hard. If there is a Pirelli test tire than that is considered bonus to their normal allocation.

Still not much to choose from when your best bet is 13 laps between pits.

This is going to be an interesting race to say the least. With Slam yakking about there only being 6-7 laps in the super-softs, that could make it an 8-9 stop race. That's gonna be NUTS!!!!

Woohoo for the back to back race weekends. And another Woohoo for FP1 & 2 on thursday. NICE!!!!!

I might be wrong. I just remember I heard that from somewhere (not sure if its BBC or SPEED or f1live websites). But the longivity of the Supersofts arn't looking good. The Soft tires normally last around 10-14 laps, then the more grippier Super Softs should last around 7-10 laps max.

I'll post Pirelli's prediction once I find out and correct myself.

DRS banned in Monaco Tunnel

The FIA has banned the DRS useage in the Monaco Tunnel, throughout the race weekend, including all Practice Sessions and Qualifying.
The in-race DRS will be just 300m at the start-finish straight. I'd say the overtaking will be more down to tire degradation and race strategy.

Quote:
The FIA has banned drivers from using the DRS overtaking wing in the Monaco tunnel at this weekend's grand prix.

The in-race overtaking zone spans just 300 metres on the start-finish straight, but the rear wing system can be used by drivers anywhere else on the twisty street circuit in practice and qualifying.

On safety grounds, however, the first exception of the season has been applied for the famous tunnel, which is technically not a straight but a fast right-hand bend.

The ban was confirmed by Charlie Whiting in a letter to Grand Prix Drivers' Association members, according to the Daily Telegraph. "We were made aware of drivers' concerns about using it and I've spoken to the drivers a few times about it, and it was quite clear the majority of them would prefer to not use it in Monaco," he told reporters last weekend in Spain.

Not everyone agrees with the drivers, however, including Renault team boss Eric Boullier. "The driver has to judge where he can safely activate the DRS," he said.

But former driver David Coulthard thinks the GPDA and the FIA are right in this case. "[The ban] seems like a sensible compromise," he said. "With the marbles that these tyres are producing, to venture off the racing line in that confined space could prove catastrophic. Better not to have the temptation."

How on earth is that possible? They only have 6 sets of tires for the race.

So. the maximum stops we could see are 5.

If the super softs are really that terrible, we might see a safety issue (tires will have to be driven until they're blistering and susceptible to basically blowing out) that will cause the FIA to increase tire allocations.

Highly doubt it will become a safety issue.
Its not like the supersofts will degrate into "no grip". But the lap difference could be 2-3 sec a lap. And we still don't know the rate of degradation yet, extreme exciting if it falls off the cliff like the Soft ones.

Talk about overnight delivery. I'm not even done rewatching the last race!

That has got to be the quickest they have moved and setup ever.
