Question Are You "Fed Up"...?

Just watched this. And it should be running WEEKLY on Network television! There are far too many obese people and more troubling, obese kids in America! This shit needs to stop! And sure, one must certainly take 'personal responsibility' BUT... Fast Food places in our school cafeterias? WITF???

Fat people disgust me. Grant it, it's not their fault their fat, it's a disease and they have no control over it. They are just fat and nothing can change that. Not even this nice hearty Big Mac with extra cheese.

Fast food in a cafeteria is a joke. All these people complaining about a more healthy future, and yet nothing is done to pursue it.

High school booster club last night is telling us of their plan to have a golf tourney again this year. Last year they netted 30G, shooting for 50 this year. Biggest donation planned since they got all the sports into the black is to fighting childhood obesity. Our school has the highest number of student athletes in the district, but there are still some serious blubber swimming the hallways.

They only require 2 years of PE any more for graduation. My son has to take some zero period classes so he can take sports-PE all 4 years.

Having been a 'gym rat' all of my life and conscientiously limiting my consumption of particularly "refined sugar and processed foods" it is truly disturbing what is going on in society. But even more disturbing is how the shit is being perpetuated by the powers that be: The Food Industry. They have, are and continue to be on a "specific detailed mission" to fatten this country up... And they start out with our youth.
Think about it... Everywhere you go, there are ALWAYS sugary candy bars and sodas right at the checkout line. And I'm NOT talking about the grocery store! I mean at Staples, Best Buy, Lowes, Home Depot. And who is usually with us while we shop? Our kiddos. And how about all the "colorful cartoon fun-loving characters" plastered all over the sugar-laden cereals? And oh yeah... I watch cartoons with my kids. And every commercial is either toys, sugary shit or fast food.

Let's not start blaming others for our problems because that is laughable at best...

You have a choice... younger kids may not but you and all others do.

We had fast food delivered to our Youth Center (basically an alternative cafeteria on campus for students) at my H.S. (and had been for the LONGEST time) and that was WAY back in 1997-2000. So this is not a "new" phenomenon by any means.

Here's something else interesting that people are already alluding to in here with P.E. (or lack thereof). Do some research on the correlation between the current real issues with early childhood education and lack of recess time in elementary schools. Bottom line: screw fast food, I think that's where the correlation for obesity should be drawn as well.

Meh, an hour of PE will only do so much. We still had fat kids in our PE classes, they were usually off in the corner eating a Snickers bar away from the action.

The real issues are with the parents that are allowing their kids to eat whatever they want, when they want and don't enforce healthy eating habits. Yeah, of course being physical goes hand in hand, but a proper diet is the core.

Exactly... in this country PE is a joke because there are no set standards. In other countries you have to meet a minimum athletic standard to pass... you cant do that here because everyone is touchy feely on almost everything.

For kids below say 14... I would say nearly everything would be the parents fault... Above that, you should know better.

I understand that I'm one of the oldest posters around here (class of 88') and there was not even a hint of FF coming into schools at that time. So yeah... That is some whack shit right there! At least to me it is. And sure, there were a few chubsters roaming around back in my school. But go and visit a High School these days... It's like a episode of The Biggest Loser everywhere.
So you can STOP with the BS about 'choice'. Any human with a brain understands that. However, when society as a whole is 'rigged to fatten you up' like the one we live in, EXTRA precaution and efforts must be made. My point is, it shouldn't have to be that way.

Here's a foked up factoid for ya... Guess who is a major investor in Fast Food on Wall Street? Medical Insurance Companies.

Irony much...

Oh... Before all the back n forth of "who's to blame', take a moment and actually watch the documentary and THEN chime in.

Yeah, but when I was in elementary school, we had BOTH an hour of P.E. and 30 mins. minimum (sometimes 45 minutes to an hour) of recess outside. You can't just "meh" at that dramatic decrease in allotted time the children are given during the day to get some exercise and just point the finger at parents (which, believe me, I always point at first) and food. This is a compound problem.

See we only got PE once a week, but did have recess every day. I'm not saying "Meh" to the decrease of time for kids to get some exercise, but parents should be enforcing this shit when their kids are at home! School is to learn and expand your brain. Is PE important? Absolutely. However, that is something that should be expanded on outside of school.

Take my (ex) SO for instance. She is currently a nanny for two younger boys. The parents are intelligent, doctors, whatever, but they do nothing to enforce their kids getting exercise at home. My parents used to toss me out the door and say "GO PLAY". These kids are sitting inside playing with legos and video games.

It is a compound issue, but parents need to teach their kids the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and making the correct choices on what to eat. You see a family of fat people, and I can guarantee they eat bullshit like FF and pizza ALL the time, and are probably glued to their TV's and computers.

My view in this is a bit weird.

I have a school run to do every day, and I see too much. I see the kids who can't afford food and get it from the school eating pizza for breakfast, and I see the idiot kids throwing away their vegetables, since they are not good.

Then I look at the mothers. You can pretty much predict what will become of the kid by looking at the primary food chooser of the family. Also, the phrase "I don't cook" makes me boiling mad. Apparently here it's a thing of pride to tell the world you can afford eating out or getting takeaway for every meal, and don't get me wrong, I could easily do that too. Here is the reason why I don't.

Every day after exhausting themselves in the park, where I do not follow them around, they get to take their own risks, boys and I go to the fridge and think of what we can come up with. They help me cut the stuff in pieces, they get to name the food (last week we had dinosaur with tarantula eggs) we talk during preparation, they learn how things taste, what goes with what, and every time we end up with a healthy meal and we have had time to talk about anything.

They have a type two diabetes running in their genes, but also I think healthy meal with actual, not manufactured flavors will make them appreciate the time spend together while preparing and the memories will probably keep them healthier.

Now, what I see in the parks is people stuffing snacks into the kids, chocolate being the main vegetable, and then the parents complain that the kid does not eat dinner or what ever. The amount of sugar and fats that are stuffed into the poor kids while they are supposed to be getting the needed exercise is disgusting and I can not understand why anyone would take anything else than water there.

Worst for me is that it's us mothers that are to blame in this. I'm stuck listening a rerun of last afternoons Doctor Phill and how they think their new hairstyle is making them look thinner, while they stuff candy up in their faces and the kids too.

Come on, get your fat assess moving, and for once think about what the future of the kids will be! we ruin them from the start, and nutrition is the key to fucking up.

I may have a few opinions about this... Sorry

Same here!

I have 2 elementary boys and we discuss daily what they do at school. And I'm also involved at their school. They get P.E. twice a week and only 30min per day of recess. That is lame as shit! So it is VERY obvious that our education system that we pay for by the way, is failing our kids from a exercise/physical standpoint. Fortunately both my boys are enrolled in off campus sports programs throughout the year.

I get when you need a movie to tell you facts about global warming (inconvenient truth) but when you need a movie to tell you why you're fat then..... Mur...mur..mur.....MURICA! Are you guys really that dumb as a whole? Serious question.

I have a lot of relatives in the states and they're Chinese and they seriously have a weight problem too. I mean they're not dumb in any way, we got lawyers, doctors, and directors of publicly listed companies but damn, weight and a boat load of health problems.

imo gotta lower the portions. A typical one person plate can feed my whole family lol.

Spot on!

I think it's fair to say that most here don't have children of their own so naturally we feel more strongly on the subject. But I would like to think that ANYONE can see the "harm" in what society as a whole is doing, or not, to our children: Getting them hooked on sugar which many doctors/scientists agree is essentially as powerful and addictive as any drug.

What's bold, is the single most important bit in here when it comes to teaching kids healthy eating habits. There has been countless studies done on ways to get kids to not only eat healthy foods, but how to ENJOY eating healthy foods. If you get them involved in the preparations and actually making the meal, they are 20 times more likely to try new things and appreciate the final product from the work they put in.

It's posts like this that make me call into question: age, common sense, respect, concern for others outside of your own lil world.

I am FAR from dumb! And damn proud to be a "fit middle aged family man" and successful business owner, who practices good dieting and physical fitness with my entire family.

Now that we've cleared that up... This film is simply addressing what is OBVIOUSLY a huge epidemic. We are discussing it in kind. So save the flaming for ya backyard grill.

Actually, the dumb people are the obese because they can't manage their food intake or understand the importance of exercise.

Which is why the fat stays fat and complains about it. They are dumb.

TLDR: Fat people need to visit the Wizard for a brain.

I agree with her comments as well. BUT... The point of the film and what you are missing is that children spend a third of their day being "influenced, taught and of course FED by s c h o o l s. To say that addressing some of the obvious travesty's: lack of physical exercise and of course fast food and other poor dietary needs there is turning a blind eye or ignorance.
