So i am going Wednesday afternoon for my LASIK surgery and after talking to the doctors and reading all the information on the do's and dont's, what do i really have to expected from the recovery time and any issues I may come across. Also this is my first surgery of any kind so don't really now what to expected.

Any help or info from people that have got it done would be great. Thanks

It's a little scary as I'm sure you've heard, but it's painless and quick. I think I was in the chair for less than 12 minutes total.

My recommendation would be to eat before you go. The place I went to gave me valium before the procedure, so afterwards I was hungry but SO sleepy. Plus your eyes will itch and you won't want to open them until after you take a nice long nap.

Also, put the drops in as directed religiously! Not only do they help prevent infection, but they also prevent your eyes from drying out which can slow the healing process, and it keeps them from itching too. You can't rub your eyes at all for the first few weeks or you could possibly pull the flap open again.

Enjoy it! SO much better than glasses or contacts!

depends how bad your eyes are

I had a very high stigmatism and a rather high prescription, so it took me about 2 days to be able to see, a week to be able to comfortably see a little better, 1.5 weeks to be able to drive (still unable to read electronics well, my gauges were blurry), 2 weeks or so until the gauges were clear-ish.

3 months for my eyes to get nice and sharp (like they are now and have been).
I have better than 20/20 (i think 20/15?. or something), and considering that before surgery, I couldn't see anything clear past 5 inches from my eyes... I'm extremely happy

Many are good to go after a weekend...I just happened to me close to legally blind so mine was different

Make sure to get plenty of rest. and do NOT have coffee or anything like that the day or before so you don't risk being fidgety during surgery

Your doctor should have given you a thorough explanation of the procedure and what to expect, but in any case, the procedure itself is very short. Takes about 5 minutes per eye. But prior to that you will spend about an hour in prep time while they examine your eyes one last time and give you drops to dialate the pupils. Once the surgery is done, your vision will be blurry because of the drops, but you will sort of be able to tell that you eyesight is better. They will send you home with medicated drops and sunglasses to protect the eyes. They recommend you sleep for a few hours if possible, or at least rest the eyes. After a few hours, the drops will wear off and you will notice clear vision. You eyes will be a little sore for the next few days and you will likely have burst capillaries in your eyes due to the procedure. Both the soreness and the capillaries will heal in about 1-2 weeks. During that time you will need to take your medicated drops as instructed and avoid letting water hit your eyes, so shower away from the water. You will go back in after a week to get the eyes checked, then again after a month then finally one more time at the 1 year mark.

That's pretty much all I remember about the procedure. Overall it is very quick, painless and easy. I def recommend it to all my friends who are thinking of doing it.

Mine was bad, they kept losing suction on the thing they stick on your eye, AND that thing hurt like hell.

thanks for all the tips, my doctor told me the same thing about eye drops, rubbing my eyes, and all the above, just want to get a person's personal experience on it. My vision isn't horrible but i do need glasses to drive at night and to see details that are more then 30 feet away, after that things start to get a little blurry. I never went the contact route, just jump over that and went start to LASIK.

Got mine done on the Army in 2002. Super easy/painless with no downsides. Came out 20/20. I swear I could have driven home. Now though I use reading glasses. It seems the more I use reading glasses the more dependant I am on them.

OK the more time passes the more I consider going thru with this surgery. Years ago when Lasik first came out I was very skeptical, because of how they do it (basically it's irreversible hit-or-miss type of procedure). I was hoping that some time in the future they will come out with something else, but years go by, my vision gets worse (-5, to -7.5 in 5 years), and nothing new.

Like a month ago I got contacts for the first time, beats glasses (don't have to clean them, fresh pair everyday, can wear sunglasses (my fav part), scuba, etc.) but still don't solve anything.

Also eye exercises is a load of bullshit, I am yet to see some scientific proof that they work

When they do Lasik, can you opt for 1 eye at a time? I fear going blind more than I fear death itself. And since Lasik is not 100% safe I am still skeptical about doing it.

don't know if you can do one eye at a time, i never asked that. My vision hasn't change much from the last few years, right now mine is -1.75 and -1.65, i just wanted to get it done, i just hate carrying my glasses around every where, since i has prescription sunglasses and regular glasses. I know its not 100% but just with all the years that have pass and technology getting better, i didn't want to wait till i was in my late 30's to 40's to enjoy my clearer vision, why not enjoy it now.

im a pussy when it comes to doctors. all i know, is i see perfect.

no dry eyes, but im sensitive to light. always have been. try to avoid getting water in your eyes for as long as you can.

As far as I know, LASIK is not covered by insurance. You can however, use your medical flex spend on it if you company offers that program.

Insurance covers contacts and glasses...

What's this about LASIK not being completely safe?

I am -4.50 right now and have been thinking about it.

i regret it everytime i am out late and drinking... I wake up with TERRIBLE dry eyes. It is like all the moisture is sucked out of my eye balls over night.

other than that I love it, cycling, skiing and clubbing baby seals is much easier!

nope night vision is even better than b4

Make sure you get the lifetime touch up guarantee, i am 2 yrs out and already feel like my left eye is not as sharp.

Also they have this custom wave front thing... very worth it over 70+% do no get halos or depth perception issues with this
