explosion in Cyprus kills 12 :(
i'll try to make it a short story.
in 2009 a boat after instructions from the US was stopped in Cyprus and all of its cargo was confiscated. the cargo consisted of 98 contaners with military equipmnent and ammunition. the cargo was then put in a navy base but because of the ignorance and stupidity of the officials it was left in the sun surrounded by bushes and trees. left there for 3 years and under the 9 month a year 30C+ temperatures reaching 40 in the summer the ammunition became highly dangerous. so dangerous the contaners were deformed. the base commander notified the ministry of defence and his superiors that the cargo was not stable and should be moved and be kept cold. he was ignored and last night at around 4AM a bush fire started (for unknown reasons maybe because of the ammunition). at 6AM the contaners exploded killing the first six firefighters that rushed to the scene, 3 soldiers (two of them twin brothers), and three permanent military personel including the commander who warned about this happening.. people are very angry here, 12 persons lost their lives because of others negligence.. the minister of defence and chief of military resigned soon after.. nothing brings them back though.. RIP links from cnn, bbc.. http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/eu...ion/index.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14102253 this link shows a document from wikileaks regarding the ship http://www.zougla.gr/page.ashx?pid=2&aid=347123&cid=94 top right in the pic you can see the deformed contaner http://www.politis-news.com/cgibin/h...46&-V=articles more pics here http://www.politis-news.com/cgibin/h...02&-V=articles sorry for not keeping it short..

I think I was the only person in Limassol that didn't hear it...
Governor's Beach is not far from St-Raphael Marina which is where I was.. and I was awake and outside!

This is a very sad thing that has happened. Kept watching PIK1 online to get the latest updates. It was heart breaking watching the relatives of those killed, speak about the loss of their loved ones.
No one deserves to go about their normal duties at work, in the army, emergency services, etc. and get killed and never to return home to their families due to someone elses negligance. Resignation of officials will never bring those that were lost back to their families. Just need to make sure something like this never happens again. A truly sad day in the history of Cyprus.
