How would you feel about a near mint car of this vintage, that has 283k miles but has been meticulously cared for and maintained, with the service records to back it? A local guy has one for sale for about $2000, and I'm considering picking it up as a winter ride.

I spoke to the gentleman on the phone for a good 30 minutes, and he clearly knows his BMW inside and out. He would probably refuse to sell it to me if he knew I was going to bomb around in the winter in it. Lol.

Does it have DSC or traction control ? Just last week when we had sudden black ice, the only cars that were left stranded on the shoulder of the road were older RWD that didn't have it, everybody else managed to get home.

It looks like a good deal, however the miles are just so high

I actually passed on buying it. The car was honestly in too good of shape to be used as a winter beater and to throw dogs in. I just wouldn't have been able to throw the dogs in it without having a heart attack every time. I wasn't real concerned with the miles - it was clearly taken care of.

I ended up buying a 2002 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport this past weekend. Should be a fun little winter beater.
