Does anyone have H&R Coilovers from ECS?

So searches tend to yield comparisons of H&R springs vs coilovers. I was wondering if anyone has this set up or could comment on it. I know KW V1's are the holy grail here but I like to at least contemplate and compare alternatives and I'm curious if anyone has any experience with these. Sorry if this has been covered before but any input is appreciated thanks.

The price is $1,185.95 and listed with 1.25" to 2.5" drop in the front and 0.75 - 2" drop in the rear.

Eerie. What made you go with these over sayKW V1 or other brands. KW V1 seems to be the consensus I imagine the lifetime warranty has something to do with it.

The warranty on KW is only for defects. I figure if the defects don't show themselves within two years (H&R warranty), then they're probably not likely to show at all.

I was about to order the V1's, but James from ECS tuning highly recommended the H&R's. Not sure why, as they'd make more money with the V1's.

I then asked my shop for their opinion (ACI Dynamix), and to my surprise, they also recommended the H&R coils. Those guys know what they're doing, so I'm going to roll with it.

ive seen people on here get turned away from the h&r because its not stainless so it has the possibility of rusting, unlike the v1s. I just seen a picture on instagram of a guy on h&r coils and it looked great.

again this is not my car. idk who this is or if he is even a member on here but he is on h&r coils. i hope he doesnt have a problem with me posting his car. if i can achieve this for my car i will go with the h&r.

Thanks Kyle. Would it be creepy if I reached out to him? Lol I'm sure it's not the first time a BMW owner creeped on another one to ask them questions about their mods. What would make you go with the H&R over the V1s?

That thing does look damn good.

Regarding the rusting thing - I've seen arguments back and forth on this topic. I believe that the consensus was that it's all bullshit. That being said, James from ECS did tell me that the V1 will hold up slightly better to the winter salt and whatnot. He also stated that any flaws that come to the H&R's, as a result of carnivorous salt, would be strictly cosmetic.

The way I see it - coilovers require upkeep and should be maintained. I will prep mine for winter, and clean and maintain them throughout. I'm just lucky to have access to a lift though.

My personally experience with H&Rs is they ride fantastic at pretty much all ride heights. H&R does an amazing job of matching spring rates with shock valving to produce a very well handling car with a great ride. Also they'll get pretty low (lower than the KW V1s if super low is what your looking for).

Correct, warranty is not for wear and tear on both. Only manufacture defects.

you're going to ruin my rep as only suggesting the most expensive part! lol Kidding, I suggested them because they are what I'd run if given the choice between the two!

Bingo. I've been running coilovers that "should" corrode for many years, but when you look at them they still look great. I give them a quick cleaning and coat of lithium grease (the spray can kind) every time I have the wheels off the car (which is at least twice a year for the winter wheel swap).

One of the biggest problem guys run into with any coilovers and winter time is the adjustable collars locking up. To avoid this clean the threads thoroughly (wire brush if you have to) every time you have the wheels off then shoot them with a little spray grease to add an extra layer of protection to the threads.

I've heard some interesting stories/problems people have run into installing the rears for some reason, but can't really find out why. I've only ridden in a car once with them installed (about 30 miles) and they seemed fairly firm.

haha personally i wouldnt mind if someone did that with me, but i love to help people anyway i could.

honestly what i look at, and i know this i might get shunned for this but is how much it lowers . I came from the VW/Audi scene and its all about being lowered and im having a hard time breaking that habit. Of course having the XI model its a lot of work to get my desirable look that i want. every time i decide what setup i want to do i back out and start over. Also im not about spending over $1500 for suspension, which doesnt give many options other them spring/strut.

I feels you bro. No shun here.

You can get coils in that price range:

KW V1
Sonic Tuning S1 (max drop is super weak)
H&R
Fortune Auto (newly released; I believe they're in that price range)
I think Megan Racing makes some too, but I wouldn't bother.

i was sooooo looking forward to the S1/S3 coilovers and almost pulled the trigger on them. Luckily i didn't. I was so disappointed when i seen peoples photos. I've only really consider V1's, H&R, or a strut/spring combo. I really dont want to do a spring/strut combo just because i know ill regret down the road.

I'm going to install KW V3's on my e90 xi tomorrow night. Got a set of vorshlag camber plates as well. I will post pics and write a short review.

This setup is super stout. Wish me luck on the install. Gotta prepare myself for some sore muscles and fingers/hands.

If you want MAX low check out FKs, the lowering specs on our site for them are based on TUV approval ratings but in reality they'll get a car underdrivabily low.

H&R runs great and after this past year running through the snow and salt... no rust. Rides firm but not to firm. Feels good to me. I went with it because I could get lower than the KW and saw nothing but good reviews at the time. Pic of the black 335xi is mine. Thanks.
