Yea I don't know, the blue tint kind of disproves the description that they're auto dimming...I'll have to call them tomorrow and inquire about that one...the dude I was on the phone with seemed pretty convinced they did not have auto dimming glass compatible with my mirrors.
Not giving up yet!! |

To me it doesn't make sense that BMW would have them for pre-LCI only. I don't know if these are standard equipment on BMWs in Europe, but this style of side-view mirror should be standard on ALL cars. It's a huge safety improvement! Cheers! |

Checking the individual part numbers on RealOEM, says they are indeed LCI, heated and auto dimming:
Left side (p/n 51167158309): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref....=on&showeur=on http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=51&fg=07&hl=1 Right side (p/n 51167158310): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref....=on&showeur=on http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=51&fg=07&hl=2 Cheers! |

The Euro-mirrors were among the first changes I made after I bought my car.
I have the auto-dims which were fairly pricey even in 2008. BTW, I purchased them through the US BMW parts network -- unfortunately, BMW slammed the window shut on the Euro parts shortly after I bought mine. Mine were manufactured in Texas -- apparently shipped to Europe, and back-shipped to the US. According to my notes, pre-LCI PNs for the auto-dim Euro mirror glass are: 51167144303 Left 51167144304 Right They are often available (used) on Fleabay (Europe) -- for about half the new price. There have been a few threads on the Euro-mirrors over the years. Some people like 'em -- I really do -- and some don't. Aspheric mirror demonstration (it's for a Porsche, but the optical physics is the same): http://www.toolworks.com/bilofsky/boxster/mirrors.html

I have no idea why these aren't standard in the US.

Ok calling ECS today. Hopefully they have clear glass, with heating and auto-dim connectors for LCI E92/E93 (are they the same for E90?)
Right now just trying to reason with the additional cost for auto dimming ones (if they're even available from ECS.) |

If you check the RealOEM links I provided earlier, you'll see that the mirrors fit e90, e91, e92, e93, along with other models. So you're covered. The ones ECS have listed on their website are the correct BMW part numbers, so you should be set there, too.

The US DOT requires that the left side mirror must be flat. (The work-around for this requirement is that many cars are now available in the US with electronic blind-spot indicators.)
As is the case with E-code headlights, the US DOT can be behind in the technology it approves. Sometimes by decades.

Got em!!! This guy Rob was super helpful. It indeed was confusing, because it comes up for sedan and 135 only, but showed compatible with my VIN. Strange.
In any case, it's 730$ for both mirror glasses and should be here from Germany around June 30th lol |

I'm going to resurrect this thread....
Can I replace my mirrors and gain the auto-dimming and heated on a non-heated and non-dimming exterior mirror car?? How does the heated and dimming work switches or other?? I have heated seats and auto-dimming center interior mirror... Is the connector pre-wired??? So that when my interior mirror dims the exterior's do too... same with heated if I turn on heated seats or defroster does the mirror then turn on?? |
