3rd Party Warranty Turbo Replacement
Just wanted to share my experience with a 3rd party warranty.
Got my contract in February, and about 2 weeks ago i started getting limp mode but with no CEL. The limp mode would only happen under aggressive throttle and i could give it a good amount of throttle before actually triggering limp mode. no smoke, no weird noises, except i swore i could hear the turbos spooling not in sync (dont even know if thats a real thing or not lol). Brought the car to paul miller BMW in NJ for service and was told i needed both turbos to be replaced. Long story not quite as long, the entire replacement is being covered buy the warranty plus a window actuator as well. I know theres a lot of debate around if 3rd party warranties are worth it but mine just paid for itself in about 2 months lol -SP

Who is the warranty company? I have the A+ plan through Alpha and hope they follow through if I ever need them.

I have 3rd party and it seems that everything that is going wrong isn't covered by mine. lol. tstat and low pressure sensor so far. It's suppose to cover bigger things like pumps and turbos, etc. Glad your experience went well.

So I spoke to soon. Received call a day later saying that due to some technicality they will not honor the repair needless to say this was a huge blow to me. Now ive got to start looking into if its even possible to sell the car. if only i had 4k to do the RB upgrade. Furious.

Have you read the terms of the warranty and asked for the basis of the denial?
Assuming that you have, what was the basis? and how does the provision that the turbos arguably fall under read? |

Most plans have a 30 day activation window from the plan purchase date, so if you bring the car in for repair before the 30 days, you have no coverage.

I am outside both the 30 day wait period and the 1,000 mile wait period. Theyre reason is that the wastegates are external to the turbo charger and they will only cover the turbos due to internal failure. Wastegates themselves are not covered.

After looking at my options I think im just going to save up do the RB swap. I dont throw any lights or codes when driving normally, only when really working the car. As soon as the turbos have to sustain its upper boost pressure, then i get limp mode.

Most of the plans will try to get out of paying for as much as they can obviously. I went through this as well. My plan covered my water pump but yet it didn't cover the tstat/labor. Unless it is explicitly stated on their items covered listing they won't pay

That really sucks man. My warranty also states "internal turbo components".
Who's the company the warranty is through?

I went with endurance. Debating on keeping it or not.

I just got a call from my BMW dealer for my 07 E92 335i that has a blown turbo and leaking head gasket. The turbo is being replaced under the factory warranty extension of 8 years or 80,000 miles and the head gasket is being "good willed" at 50% of regular price. Is your B not covered under the extended factory warranty?

Hate to bring this back from dead but I have endurance was thinking about bringing it in for waste gate rattle. My contract doesn't state Watergate isn't covered just says turbos.

Are you past the 8 year 82k BMW warranty? Although I've heard BMW will do anything to get out of honoring that.

Yeah I'm at 125k miles didn't notice the wastegate rattle until after I put in DPs at 115k miles. My warranty says specifically states turbos are covered as well as all moving parts. But other guy said something about wastegates so I'm curious. I'm putting stock DPs back on this weekend and going to try and bring it in. Fully stock.

I guess theres no harm in trying but I'd be shocked if they covered this. Again, as an external part, they specifically state that they wont cover it and they said as much when i tried to argue with them. GL.
