I tried to replace my worn trim in my 2008 328i this morning with the X1 trim (part number 32306853142).

But now I'm stuck because the new trim won't screw on!

I can't get a single one of the 3 tork screws to catch or tighten at all. The trim is slightly ajar because of this. No matter how hard I try, I can't get the screws back in.

Did anyone else have any issues with this? I was under the impression that the X1 trim would fit my car, but maybe the screws don't line up?

Thanks for the DIY !! I changed the trim piece in 15 minutes. It went exactly as you described.

Thanks for the write up! It really helped me. Two differences I found: 1) the multi buttons were held on with torx not phillips screws, 2) the multi button wiring on the right side was really tight on mine, so I started to pull the trim from the left side. The extra slack in the wiring made it much easier than working from the right side. I did not have to remove the air bag.

I finally got around to doing my steering wheel trim. Here is mine. I had trouble getting the trim to sit flush, and it was also causing my gear to be stuck in M1 instead of being able to shift into D. To solve this problem, instead of inserting the trim from the bottom and sliding it up, I had to slightly stretch it over the airbag in order for it to slide into position without interfering with the wires from the controls. Once I went in from the sides instead of the bottom, the paddle shifters worked fine, and I was able to screw the trim down without any error.



Also added an oddments tray and took out the ashtray.

Whatever happened? Were you able to tighten all the torx screws. I am looking into the X1 trim, since I melted my trim with aircraft paint remover.

Old thread but glad it's here! Just ordered an M trim from turner. I'll try without removing airbag first. I've removed the airbag before on my 750. It's not hard it's just a bit fiddly getting the screwdriver into the release slot correctly.

Not one pic in this thread of the clip that holds the trim in place. I loosened the torx screws but couldn't get the trim off. No idea which direction to try and "unclip". I have an m-sport wheel if it makes any diffference.

Yeah I pushed down with a screwdriver while simultaneously pulling down.
