Great, another car with an iPad control center and no physical controls! Nothing will go wrong there! Probably a subscription to turn on the screen! Lmao

Exactly. But he’s charging 30-40k for his entry level cars. Bmws will start at over 50k. They will get away with it as well because Mercedes will soon follow leaving few alternatives.

This is true, but BMW is also in the business of making money and the profitability of this kind of system is ripe for the taking. Mercedes is already doing it and have eliminated most physical controls, much like a lot of the VAG group.

Look at the newly released Q6 etron interior images. It's a hot mess design wise and everything is done via the screen.

Not buying a car where there are no buttons to operate features.

Its almost as if they have no clue all we do is Carplay or Android Auto.

Just give me a high resolution, high quality, decent sized and well positioned screen. At least 6 programmable buttons (some on steering wheel or around it andr a few on mid dash level) and quick AC controls (second screen with haptic feedback or buttons).

Its not like the car is doing much more than a 2009 would… no need to redesign menus all the time. All the connectivity and media should be coming from your phone at this point.

We don't all use Carplay or Android Auto.

I can't seem to keep a phone for more than 4 years because they break and/or the operating system becomes obsolete. Are these cars going to only last 4 years as well because everything is in the screen?

And what was ever wrong with physical nobs and analogue controls?? Do people hate the simplicity of turning a nob for volume??

And nothing is sexy about this. You now what is sexy? Knobs. Knobs are sexy a.f.

Im so done with BMW... So many other brands are rocking it right now, electric or ICE. And they have cars that done look like something out of the Jetsons, just good looking cars, some of which happen to be electric. Both the Taycan Etron GT looks pretty much like normal cars, the Cadillac Lyric and Escalade IQ, pretty much the same thing, relatively normal looking cars, and good looking at that.

I love my CT5-V, its much more raw and engaging than my 2020 M340 ever way, maybe a little slower, but for street driving its hardly noticeable. The steering and suspension with Mag Ride is pure wonder. I get compliments regularly on the CT5-V from strangers, where I pretty much never did with the M340, and its much more luxurious inside. Ive owned 9 BMWs over 24 years and they are just not what they used to be. Specs have improved, but the looks and excitement they brought has not kept up.

yeppp. people genuinely think "oh it's sorta futuristic, must be more expensive!!". nope. transistors, buttons, needing to design ergonomics of hardware placements, those take money. instead, now they're releasing something objectively bad or incomplete (in some ways) and saying "well we can push an OTA software update later"...

timing worked well for BMW specifically, too, in terms of when they cutover to curved screens. things became more expensive to build with chip/component shortages, so BMW went with a cheaper interior to produce, while upping the cost because it's more "modern".

i do think car companies are partially catering to a new audience as well... the ipad kids who do everything in their lives on a screen, so carrying it over to a car feels natural. granted a car needs to be a different, more attentive experience, but i at least understand their attempt at logic

When I look at this, it feels like it’s from an optimistic sci-fi movie, incredibly awesome stuff. Amazing, incredible tech. I don’t understand how sad and angry someone could be to hate this. Say stuff like “is this a joke?”. The only normal answer to this would be:”No this is not a joke. It’s really this UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING! They really made it, this is real, this is now, not some fake concept video from 2050, we will be able to buy this in 2 years!” But of course the question is coming from this decade’s mentally ill sad depressed cynical approach… Seriously? This is so bad that it can only be a joke? Are we looking at the same thing? It feels like the better something is, the more people hate.

The insurance excess is the same for a normal windscreen or a HUD and ADAS one.

Guys let's wait till we see the real car.

If you have feedback please give it to BMW through social media or known bloggers who interact with BMW makers.

Yup. I mean, the older stuff can still be bought albeit used, not like they got banned.

Oh please. I'm hardly in the minority in thinking that iDrive has completely jumped the shark, growing to iMax proportions, removing physical controls for HVAC and other features that need them, etc. "Mental illness epidemic"?? Give me a break, you can't be serious.

No you won't.

Once you get a few oil leaks from that engine, or the turbos blow, or you bend a rod or something else goes wrong in that overengineered marvel, you'll run away from that M5.
