I work with people from Deloitte all the time. No further comment on them or any of the other "big four".

Though I still do get laugh of how a former boss of mine would endlessly brag about the fact she used to work for Andersen. She bragged on that right until the day the Enron scandal broke. She never mentioned it again.

i'm not knocking you at all. i was just laughing at the comment about it being every business majors dream job.

my university has tons and tons of acct majors in the big 4 pipeline. so, i have lots of friends and family that went big 4.

you will get a lot of experience with your internship which is good. just don't let yourself think only of the big 4 when you actually get to graduating, you might be surprised what other jobs are out there.

friend of mine just finished an internship at goldman. you work from 6 in the morning to 1130 at night every day of the internship and it sucks. but he did it all and will be working there next year.

a good internship will usually lead you to a job offer so work your ass off

I agree 100%. Even if the internship isn't paid, its still worth doing if you want to work there after. I did an internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital here in Chicago (not a dr...my degree is in hospital administration). It wasn't paid, but I made a lot of great contacts and connections and I got a job here after my internship. So even if an internship isn't paid, it still may be worth all the work and time in the long run...it was for me atleast. Good luck to you by the way.

but thats to be expected for an ibanking analyst or associate role (actually, even worse than that). i would think that accounting/audit would have less strenuous hours, unless its quarter or year end close, or if you have a hardass client.

I don't know how it is in the financial industry, but in my industry, the larger firms are the ones that overwork you, treat you like shit, and are unappreciative. While the prestige is surely synonymous with the employer's name, your potential for happiness and greater earning potential is better with a smaller to midsized firm. In fact, my employer is a small company buy highly recognized in our specialty field. We're the best at what we do and other companies in the same specialty field (both small and large) recognize it.
