Bikes

Curious on how many of you ride bikes... I don't mean bicycles.

I'm thinking about getting into them.

Thinking of an older Kawasaki Ninja

I've got an 05 Honda 600RR. I had an 03 Suzuki SV650S before it. The Honda sits lower and has a different riding style than the SV. I love the Honda tho. It's fun to cruise around on and get a bit of a thrill as well. Mine's fully stock but I've seen some sick looking bikes- just can't justify modding my LR, the bike, and my ordered M3 at the same time, just not enough cash flow.

If you get a bike, take the MSF course. It seems silly if you've ridden bikes before, but it's a good experience. Added benefit is a discount of some percentage on your bike insurance. I get 15% off through Geico. It's also fun scoring a perfect on written and riding parts!

good deal, I do plan on being part of a course. I would never have thought of getting a bike, however its become more and more interesting to me. With gas prices these days and it just seems my style.

Anyone have any experience with older Ninjas?

+1 on taking the MSF. i just took that course a few months ago. I heard that the ex250(ninja 250) is a good starter bike but i got an new R6 as my first bike and i did fine but i only had it for 2 months cuz my parents were completely against it. If you don't mind spending a little money first, get the ninja but if you don't want to waste your money, get what you want and be a responsible rider.

If this is your first time riding on any type of motorcycle I would recomend something like a SuperMoto bike. It is just like a dirt bike, but for the street. You will need something a bit slower and lighter. Look into a KTM supermoto or the Suzuki 450.

I have a Ducati 1098 and a 1972 Ducati 750 Sport, beveldrive. I've raced bikes including 1986 VFR700, FZR600, Honda Hawk, CBR F2, SV650, R6, but enjoy twins the most.
Learning to ride a sportbike well is not a something that happens overnight, and lots of people get hurt or worse in the process of buying more bike than they can handle despite their egos. Please get a torquey middleweight, like an SV or middleweight inline 4 and stay safe. Used is even better, no garage queens for first bikes, ride for a couple of years then take it to a trackday school, nothing else like it!

+1

Take a MSF new rider course to get your license and get a small starter bike like a Ninja 250. I just got the newest model year 2008 and it looks great. The 2007 and below look like 80's bikes. I got my bike in Jan and am still learning on it. You'd be a fool to get anything bigger without any riding experience. Many people get 600cc as their first bike, but many people agree that a 250 is a great way to start out.

Do I ever. I have had semi good luck with this bike. It has needed a lot of work (ignition switch, starter switch, lots of new o-rings) but it is also 11 years old and has 24K miles on it. I like it, great body style but I would recommend a post 2002 bike.

The VFR 750 IMO is a great bike. I thought about trading in my 600RR for a new one before the M bug hit me. Maybe in 5-6 years I will think about it. I've got enough ride choices for now.

Yeah, I barely consider a 500cc a real bike. I would start 600cc at the lowest unless price is really that much of a factor.

I think of 250cc and 500cc bikes as glorified scooters myself
