Saturday 19th July 2014
German Grand Prix Free Practice 3: 11:00-12:00 (UK time: 10:00-11:00)
German Grand Prix Qualifying: 14:00 (UK time: 13:00)

Sunday 20th July 2014
German Grand Prix: 14:00 (UK time: 13:00)

There will be two DRS zones. The detection point of the first is 110m before Turn One, with the activation point 60m after Turn One.

The second detection point is at the exit of Turn Four, with the activation point 260m after Turn Four.
Naturally, there have been a number of changes carried out to the circuit since the last Grand Prix here in 2012.

► a one-metre wide strip of Grasscrete has been laid next to the track surface on the approach to Turn One.

► In order to prevent further damage to the grass verge at Turn 15, a 50mm high combination kerb has been laid behind the kerb on the apex.

► Drainage has now been provided in the drag strip around the outside of Turn 17, this should prevent the accumulation of water there

BIG things happening at Caterham this week.
Over 40 employees got the axe....

The will still retain the Caterham name, but are no longer affiliated with the Caterham Group that Fernandes will remain a part of. Kolles runs a consortium of middle east and Swiss investors who have purchased the team.

Former Dutch F1 driver Christijan Albers is taking over for Tony Fernandes to run the team.

Deputy technical director Jody Eggington and head of track operations Gerry Hughes are also gone.

Team prinicple Cyril Abiteboul left allegedly to return to Renault.

Colin Kolles is now going to be team prinicple. He used to run HRT and Midland, Spyker, Force India

Albers;
""We are aware of the huge challenge ahead given the fight at the bottom end of the championship. Our target now is to aim for 10th place in the 2014 championship."

Alexander Rossi is also leaving in anticipation of joining the new American F1 team, Haas Formula.

FRIC ban by Whiting information:
http://www1.skysports.com/f1/report/...st-controversy

F1 teams fail to agree to delay the FRIC ban:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/114969

If anyone still is not familiar with FRIC, read about it here:
http://www.formula1.com/news/feature...medium=twitter

FIA is taking a "hands off approach" and will not offer any alternative suggestions. If a team is still running FRIC another team can challenge its legality...part of the reason why McLaren, et al are removing it for this race.

PaddockTalk:
"The big question ahead of Hockenheim is whether any team will lodge a protest against rivals running 'Fric' suspension systems.

It is believed Thursday's scrutineering procedures is the preferred deadline for any protest to be lodged, after teams failed to reach an unanimous position on the technology whose legality has been questioned by the FIA.

Top teams like Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren have resolved simply to remove the systems from their cars ahead of the German grand prix.

Others are likely to follow suit, like Force India, who according to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport are leaving key developments in the cupboard for Hockenheim due to the Fric controversy.

But according to the Silverstone based team's technical boss Andy Green, there could be another way.

"Every team can ask the stewards for their opinion," he said. "That would be not a protest, but a clarification.

"That way you would know where you stand"

I haven't read any news on the FRIC ban being delayed until the end of the season? I just read this morning that Mercedes, RB, and McLaren have all confirmed that they will not be running a FRIC suspension this weekend in fear that their race results will be disallowed.

The last I had read the teams were voting on the veto to the FIA rule but it needed to be unanimous. I guess it wasn't!

I'm going to edit my other post to avoid confusion

Stealth, Thanks for stepping in and start the race thread!!!

I'm not happy with any "mid-season" ban, just makes no sense to me.
Like RBR past few years, if the car was able to past strict scruitneering EVERY race weekend. That means it satisfy technical regulation for that SEASON!

Keep changing rules every weekends just does not make sense to me. If a team is smart enough to hide any gadgets, its up to other teams and FIA to find evidence to prove, ban and impose penalty. As for FRIC, I don't see the point if most teams are using and developing right now. To me is an evolution of suspension concept.

No problem, man! I just don't want to step on your toes here lol ... just made this thread b/c I thought you were out seeing the world... glad to have you back. How was the travelling?

Question for you all: Whiting says FRIC violates tech reg 3.15 (adjustable body work that influences aerodynamics). Doesn't DRS do that as well??

I really miss that ~4.2mile Hockenheim.
I still remember Hakkinen rear tire incident, and some Daimler protester at the track.

Best one was Hakkinen vs Berechello Wet and Grooved year. (I believe 2000)

I heard cigarettes are expensive in German prisons, and let's be honest, no inmate would pay a dime to have sex with that troll.
