I've been watching older movies lately, and realized how crappy the more recent films are.

Waiting.

It looked horrible but was pretty funny (Old School type humour).

I don't know if it's just me but there aren't very many good movies around lately.

Heard "Thank you for Smoking" is really good and got a bunch of good reviews too. I've been trying to watch it, unfortunately it's somewhat of a limited release compare to crap like Scary Movie 4 which is playing everywhere else

Thank you Shim! I haven't seen a decent new movie in YEARS! Everything is a remake! No one puts any effort into anything anymore, especially movies or TV shows.

Here, I'll give you guys a list of some of my favorite movies and if you haven't seen them before and want to know more about them before you rent/buy, ask me here or look them up on IMDB.com or whatever you want...

Here, some of my favorites in no particular order:

Indiana Jones 1 2 3
The Godfather 1 2 3
Rocky 1 2 3 4
The Silence of the Lambs/Hannibal/Red Dragon
The Matrix
Scarface
Goodfellas
Casino
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Reservior Dogs
True Romance
The Usual Suspects
American History X
JFK
Saving Private Ryan
Stigmata
Vanilla Sky
American Beauty
Shawshank Redemption
Tombstone
Gladiator
Frequency
Forrest Gump
Fight Club
Devils Advocate
Cruel Intentions
Wild Things
Apollo 13
Ocean 11
Wedding Singer
Dumb & Dumber
Office Space

...just to name a few. Notice the newest one here is probably at least 5 years old...

1) Crash (2005, Oscar Best Picture)
2) Braveheart (not on your list)
3) Shawshank Redemption (not on your list)
4) Road to Perdition (not on your list and I think you'll like it from looking at your list of mobster movies)
5) The Notebook (I was never a fan of romance movies but coercion from my g/f made me see this one and I have to admit, this is almost as good as Titanic)
6) Schindler's List
7) Titanic - hell, why not - but I'm sure you saw it already
8) Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind (for the more profound mind)
9) Big Fish (for the most profound mind)

For the more low-key blockbuster films:

1) Spirited Away (anime film and one of Japan's all-time box office record holders)
2) Running Out of Time (Chinese)
3) Hero (Chinese)
4) Snatch; Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels (English - Guy Ritchie has a similar mind as Quentin Tarantino, if not better)
5) Trainspotter (English - Ewan McGregor's breakout film)

Check out that list again, Squawks! Shawshank is there!

Actually, could you give me a little synopsis (just a few sentances) about Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind and Big Fish. These are actually two movies I wanted to see, but I was never sure what they were about or if I'd even like them.

I liked Titanic, I mean it was probably the best Titanic movie ever made (and I've seen them all) but I just absolutely can't stand Leonardo!

Oops, damn, I am blind! My left eye has no vision!

Regarding Eternal Sunshine - it's one of the first romance movies that took a rather obscure approach to love. The movie is quite abstract and the picture is amazing - the directing is profound and the scenes are almost poetic. It's just a love story with a huge twist where couples can 'break-up' cleanly by going to a doctor and having both of their memories erased but only to the point where all memories regarding the relationship are erased and nothing else.

Big Fish - a Tim Burton movie. The profoundess is multiplied a hundred times. Everything in this movie has a meaning, and if you were to take college all over again, it could be in your culture/sociology courses. The movie is simply about a father who loves to bond with his child through the art of story-telling.

I don't like spoilers hence I refuse to go too much in detail. I don't even read the synopsis of movies anymore because they give away too much - even the trailers.

EDIT: I have an incredibly small collection of DVDs because I only like to buy those that I know I would keep and show my future kids. These two movies are in that collection.
