In three days from today - on July 10th - the smell of racing oil, the sounds of turbos and V8s and rubber screeching will fill the air of Bowmanville Ontario, Canada.
This will be the only Canadia stop on the calendar.
The event:

The International Motor Sports Association will bring the Tudor United SportsCar Championship, Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge,
Lamborghini's Super Trofeo and the Porsche GT3 Cup together for another round of 2014 racing.
We will also see the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites and the SCCA Pro Racing Mazda MX-5 Cup this next weekend.
NOTE: There will be NO PC (Prototype Challenge) cars racing this weekend.
** Alex Tagliani was handed a 1-race supsension at Watkin's Glen but being that PC cars are skipping Canada he will be forced to miss the Brickyard Grand Prix on July 25th.

The track:

"Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will offer corrals for some of the top marques competing over the weekend, which include Corvette, BMW, Porsche and Mazda.

Turner Motorsports is headed up to Canada for the weekend
https://vine.co/v/MPO1TmIugld

Michelin Motorsports Race Preview - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

There is no halftime show scheduled at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), but the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix, July 13, is unmistakably the mid-way point of the inaugural 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship for Michelin and its technical partner teams.

One of the fastest and most challenging circuits in motorsports, the classic 2.459-mile circuit features blind crests, high speed corners, heavy braking and a relentless flow that presents risks and rewards several times each lap.

"In effect, CTMP is all about confidence and commitment," said Ken Payne, motorsports technical director for Michelin North America. "Places like this are why Michelin pushes tire development so hard and works so closely with our Michelin technical partner teams. We know that the combinations of lateral solicitation and vertical load can create one of the most difficult situations possible for a tire. We want to provide the technology to meet the demands of the most difficult circuits and offer our drivers the confidence and consistency they need to stay aggressive lap after lap. That approach wins races and wins championships," said Payne.

As the two-hour 45-minute race here July 13 (FoxSports1 - 2:00-5:00 pm EDT) plays out, each tick of the clock also brings the second half of the season and the 2014 IMSA championships into closer focus.

The 2014 IMSA Manufacturer, Team and Driver championship battles are all in full roar. Through the first five TUDOR Championship races for the high powered GT Le Mans (GTLM) class, the factory Porsche North America (Daytona, Sebring) and Corvette Racing (Long Beach, Monterey, Watkins Glen) Michelin technical partner teams have dominated with Porsche taking the first two and Corvette the following three wins. Michelin technical partners Corvette Racing, BMW Team RLL and Dodge Viper currently lead the team championships.

BMW Team RLL has used a series of podium finishes to stay in close contention and Dodge Viper, which turned in a very strong second half to the 2013 season, seems poised to do that again after an impressive 2-3 finish at Watkins Glen. Ferrari claimed the GTE Pro class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Risi Competizione Ferrari set the fastest GTLM race lap at Watkins Glen. All are Michelin technical partner teams.

At the most recent round, Watkins Glen, a mere 0.370 seconds separated the fastest lap of the race from the ninth fastest GTLM car. "All of our teams ran best laps within a margin of 0.28 percent at Watkins Glen," said Payne. "It is amazing competition."

"With the 24 Hours of Le Mans and three of the four longer races in the TUDOR Championships behind us, Michelin will look to help our teams continue to fight for the championships and simultaneously start to work on tire developments for the 2015 season," said Payne. "The Rolex 24 at Daytona (January 24-25, 2015) comes up pretty fast. One thing that we all learn in motorsports is that whether it is lap times, race length or race calendar, the clock never stops ticking."

BMW Team RLL – Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Preview
www.rahal.com

July 8, 2014

Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – July 8, 2014 …Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formally Mosport International Raceway) is next up for BMW Team RLL as the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship makes its only visit to Canada for the July 13th Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix.

The classic circuit northwest of Toronto, Ontario is one of the fastest in North America and a favorite of most every driver for its challenging, high speed corners. It hosted the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix eight times in the years between 1967 and 1977, a part of the most dangerous decade Formula 1 ever saw.

BMW Team RLL is coming off its most disappointing finish of the season (6th and 10th) after its best qualifying effort (1st and 3rd) at Watkins Glen International. The 2.45-hour race at CTMP has never been the most successful venue for BMW drivers, having failed to reach the podium in the last three season’s events. In last year’s American Le Mans Series race BMW Team RLL finished 5th and 6th.

The WGI result (10th) has dropped Bill Auberlen and Andy Priaulx to second place in driver points standings. They now stand nine points in arrears of the leaders and the No. 55 Z4 GTLM is an equal amount back in the team standings. John Edwards and Dirk Müller stand 7th in driver points. BMW is third in Manufacturer points, only four points behind Porsche and five points from Corvette.

“We’re looking forward to going to Mosport which is one of my favorite tracks although, frankly, we haven’t had much luck there in recent years,” said Bobby Rahal, Team Prin*cipal. “Obviously with that long, long back straight, regardless of how fast you are going through the corners, is really the major feature of the track. As always we’ll do our best and see if we can manage to avoid the problems that occurred at Watkins Glen and stay with the lead guys. Obviously the Corvettes have something over everybody; they’re clearly the dominant car this year with the new chassis, but as always we’ll give it our best shot.”

Bill Auberlen, driver, No. 55 Z4 GTLM
“The first half of the year has been amazing. Andy and I have had great success, and until the last race we held the championship lead in the points. The GTLM class is so competitive that on any given weekend anybody can win and the points chase is so tight that we need to keep pushing and fighting for the top step of the podium. We are going to do our homework before CTMP and come out ready to win. It’s great to know that when the going gets tough that you can rely on the best in the business with the BMW Team RLL guys and their commitment to win every race.”

Andy Priaulx, driver, No. 55 Z4 GTLM
“Again this will be a new track for me and with the sessions being so busy it will be tough to get many quality laps before the race. With this in mind my preparation will be even more intense. I hope that Bill and I will be strong yet again and keep the fight for the championship alive. Corvette is really dominant at the moment but I will not lose faith. We will do everything we can to stay in touch!”

John Edwards, driver, No. 56 Z4 GTLM –
“Last year I was at the Mosport round of the ALMS series but wasn’t driving, so I’m glad I won’t have to watch from the sidelines this weekend. The flowing high speed corners will suit the Z4, but we will have to fight hard in the race when we deal with traffic. So far this season the GTLM category has been extremely competitive and I don’t expect the race at Mosport to be any different. Dirk and I are pretty far down in points after some bad luck early in the season, so we will be pushing rather than driving conservatively as we target race wins the rest of this season.”

Dirk Müller, driver, No. 56 Z4 GTLM
“CTMP is one of my favorite circuits and after our tough luck at Watkins Glen we are really motivated to change it for the better. I love all the changes they made around the track in recent years to make it better for everyone. Yes, the uphill section will be difficult with our top speed disadvantage, but that is where we are with the balance of perfor*mance and it does not lessen my enthu*siasm for the circuit.”

The Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix will take the green flag at 2:05 p.m. ET Sunday, July 13th. The race will be broad*cast live on Fox Sports 1 with coverage begin*ning at 2:00 p.m. ET. Follow BMW Team RLL on Twitter at BMWUSARacing for “from-the-pit-box” updates all weekend. More infor*ma*tion on the program can be found at www.bmwusa.com and www.imsa.com.

The only reason those Corvettes are running so quickly is because IMSA hasn't handed them any balance of performance adjustments like they're doing down the line.
Turner just got handed a BoP adjustment for their GTD class Z4. They have to add weight now.
If the C7.R's don't get a BoP then I don't know how competitive RLL can be in terms of knocking 'Vette out of P1...

I don't like this BoP nonsense

ya if you see how slow RLL is in the straights its enough to make you want to hit your head against the wall the vette just kills them... why do you think Chevy hasnt had to do any adjustments?

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I have a feeling it's politics. Chevy is now an official automotive sponsor for IMSA. In fact they've inked a multi-year deal to this affect.

So - in my mind - when the governing body votes on who needs weight or air restrictors added, the contract and partnership clearly has an influence.

IMSA " Hey Chevy come partner with us and throw lots of money at us. We'll get you some wins and you'll be able to sell a bunch more Corvettes with a lot of newly claimed race victories"

**Not facts, I'm just speculating

GTLM

VETTE for sure, normally i would say RLL on a grand prix circuit as the BMW has alot of down force and does well in the tight circuits but with these straights VIPER exchange is starting to look decent with their new car so i would give them a chance. PORSCHE NA has some extremely aggressive drivers right now but not sure if they have the speed. wolf and the FALKEN PORSCHE def not as much as i hate to admit it...KROHN AND RISI not in the top 3 either

SO VETTE, RLL, VIPER ARE my predictions..

what you think?

4th: SRT Motorsports: Viper SRT
5th: BMW Team RLL Z4 GTe

GTD:
1st: AIM - 458 Italia
2nd: Dempsey Racing - 911 GT America
3rd: Turner Motorsports (only because of their BoP weight) - Z4 GT3

I do. They performed very well in both Daytona and Sebring and I think Mosport is a good track for them to do well again however they wont be able to break Corvette's momentum so P3 at best for them

Markus and Dane are tearing up the track in the Blue and Yellow Z4 today
P7 in FP but dont forget the 31kgs due to BoP. Even with this the top 10 GTD cars are all within six tenths of a second of each other. Seems like the right ingredients for a good race!!
