For anyone who has driven a 6 series

I'm contemplating buying a 645 and was wondering if anyone on here had experience of driving/living with a 6 series?

We have one. It's a convertible though.

The ride is comfy; much better than the e92's. The power isn't bad, but it's not impressive. It's more than satisfactory for overtaking and spirited driving. Body roll is actually very well kept in check. I think it has to do with the active roll stabilizers or something like that. We have active steering which, despite being an old version, is necessary for a car of its size (imo). The exhaust is too muffled, but I'm sure any kind of aftermarket work would make it sound amazing. The interior is a bit below what you'd expect for a car of its pricetag (considering buying new that is), and they addressed this with the 650i MY facelift. There's a few features missing, like iPod access I believe. The transmission isn't bad, but there aren't any paddle shifters, and it's hardly what you'd call aggressive in DS, so use D or M. Surprisingly, the backs seats are less useful than the e92's.

It's not a bad car in any way, but I would consider multiple other options within its price range.

My stepdad has a 645i vert and he has liked it. I would agree that the back seats are quite tight unless you have short people up front and in back. The 1 series is more roomy. Maybe a 645 coupe would be better?

I don't believe he has had any major problems and has over 60k miles. The only thing I remember is that it ate rear time due to unever wear to a lot of camber in the rear. I am not sure if that was factory or a mistake, but I think an alignment clear most of it up early on.

It is not the most sporty car, but it makes for a very good cruiser with plenty of power, a good sound, nice handling, and a smooth ride.

Overall I haven't heard many complaints, other than the dealers in Florida are much less willing to accommodate a customer than those in NC.

It's a coupe, I don't need loads of rear space as my kids are 2 and 4 so that shouldn't be too much of an issue. Thanks for the input so far.

Seen a couple of convertables at different local dealers - One was a 08. Are they hard to move??

There's a 650ic in my driveway, and I don't like the way it drives (coming out of my 1). I'm sure it's a great GT car, but I don't like that float. You just feel disconnected. It's a manual, and the throws are too long, the clutch is vague and imprecise (think Honda), but the interior is excellent and the car is beautiful. The 650s are much better looking than the 645s, IMO (had one of those too.)

Think Honda? Not Integra Type R, S2000, NSX, or even Si IMO. I will agree that the 6 is a bit too much for my tastes as well.

non-performance Honda. Standard Civic. One of my best friends had an 08 Civic EX before upgrading to an Si, and I was comfortable getting out of the EX and into the 6.

This is my opinion too! I drove the 650i first and then the 130i right after and it was alot more fun than the 6, however as you said great GT just not as involving to drive.

I can understand the 1 being more fun to drive. Guess I'll have to drive the 6 to see how "floaty" it is. It has the stiffening roll bar option (whatever its called) so may be ok?

it reminds me of the SC 430 from lexus or the SL 500 from mercedes.

medium sized luxury cruiser with fine power. But, the power in these vehicles is NOT enough to live up to the "aggressive" look of these cars, ESPECIALLY the SL 500.

the old '03+ SL 500s were just ever so slightly underpowered. 0 to 60 in 6.1

It's on the cusp of being "fast" (< 6 seconds) but not quite there

SC 430s are even worse. they are outclassed by SO MANY vehicles in acceleration in just the lexus lineup itself - hell the big ass LS 460 boat accelerates faster than the SC 430. now that's...a little bit sad.
