Cool E34 M5 Convertible, revealed after being secret for 20 years

The automotive world has always known only two variants of the E34 M5 - sedan and touring... until now. As recently revealed to select journalists during a 25 year M5 celebration, BMW has actually also built a convertible E34 M5 and was all set to put it into production. Unforutnately, just a week prior to its scheduled Geneva debut, the powers that be at BMW nixed the convertible M5 out of fear that demand for non-M5 convertibles would eat into 3 series convertible sales.

I wonder what other secret cars BMW has built but is keeping inside its vault

incredible!

I imagine that this fits in to the same category as the "mystical" M8 I heard of before.

As most know, the V12 engine in the 850csi was an "M-Power" engine and was in fact another variant of the V12 engine that BMW put in the McLaren F1 Roadster.

Rumour was that BMW had actually made a BMW M8 that had the McLaren spec BMW V12 under the hood (640hp) rather than the 850csi 404hp V12.

Who knows?

This post reminds me of the original Z3m v12 roadster that I saw back in 2000. BMW themselves actually made a couple supposedly as an exhaust sound tuning study....

Remember it having bright yellow exterior and blue leather interior. Not the most elegant combo, but it sure stood out in a crowd.

"BMW nixed the convertible M5 out of fear that demand for non-M5 convertibles would eat into 3 series convertible sales."

Curious, so they didn't want to sell a higher price/higher profit 5 series vert and take sales away from a lower cost 3 product? Odd reason.
