gas mileage

I have a 2000 540i with 87000 miles. Car is in great shape and well taken care of. Problem is that in the city I am now getting 10 miles to the gallon. Can anyone help me out here? Can't believe this is normal. elb

Well...if your commute is extreme stop and go, then i can believe it.
Tires deflated? What is the traffic situation like?

Hardly any commute. Once a week thirty miles each way in not bad traffic. Tires checked OK. Most of the low gas mileage is in the city of San Francisco with hills. Wondering if the low gas mileage is not unusual. Drive less than 10K miles per year.
