Recommend a Lake House location

Last summer we stayed in a lake house in Austin TX. Apart from the odd two bit who broke the safety rules on the water when we rented a boat it was pleasant.

This year we're planning a few long trips such as a week in Rhode Island near fall and two weeks in NYC then two near Vermont.

I came across this article:

11 Great Places To Rent A Lake House—That You May Not Have Thought Of! - TripAdvisor Rentals

https://apple.news/AlKgqxQsmRYuoXr6aUcK-_Q

It has me thinking about lake house stays. What would you recommend?

I don't know what it is about the summer sun but I enjoy being around water like a beach or a lake. Two years ago we stayed in a beach house in Newport CA and then another one near Conorado Beach.

Look into Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. House rentals available, houseboat rentals, cabins. Lot's of private coves, waterfalls, and not as crowded as some of the more well known and popular lakes. If you can find it online, BoatUS magazine just did a very similar article, and Smith Mountain Lake was on their list as well.

We have a cottage on Keuka Lake (one of the NY finger lakes). If you've never been, I highly recommend checking the area out. Water is pristine, surrounding area is gorgeous. Not to crowded, tons of wineries, breweries and distilleries for fun times. Fishing is really good too. Boat rentals for skiing, tubing, etc.

Here's a view from my dock:

Check out Lake George. One of the best lakes in upstate near NYC.
Newport RI is a great town with nice scenic views.

Lake Winnipesaukee in Nh is the most popular in new England and I have had plenty of fun there. You could look that up to compare to others.

I've been camping near Lake George several times (many years ago) and recommend it. I also agree with others about Newport RI. You will enjoy Newport better than any lake in RI. (I'm I'm FL now but grew up in RI.)

If you think the early 20s ones are the best catches out there, you have only been with girls and not women.

Trust me. They will teach you a thing or two...

Is there enough water in lake Powell right now? I know they have had big issues.

If you go in summer, definitely Lake George. My family rented a house on the lake for many years. We had boat, wave runners and lake access, it was a blast. Lots of tubing!!! And fun night life.

Newport RI is also a great choice like another poster suggested. When I was there lots to do and cool bars.

If you want to take advantage of your dollar, check out Lake Muskoka. Good fun and warm water.
