BMW 50 Years M Heritage Badges

What are ur thoughts on the 50 Years M Heritage Badges on older Models?

Im thinking about adding them to the front and rear aswell as replacing the rim caps.
Do you guys think it shouldnt be done to older models and remain exclusively for the newer generation and G chassis ?

Im driving a F23 in Sapphire Black metallic, id love to add a little bit of color on it which comes with these emblems but im not sure if itll look good on that kind of car im particular.

There's nothing "50th Anniversary" about that logo other than BMW discontinued it when they went from "BMW Motorsport" to "BMW M" and they brought it back for the 50th anniversary. That was the original Motorsport logo and I have that logo with 20th and 30th Anniversary written on it. I have original clothing with it, as well as official BMW clothing re-issued using it. If you like the look of it, wear it proudly. The first BMW vehicle to use those colors was actually a motorcycle in 1978:

For my size hubcap, I have to use non-BMW copies, but I did it anyway.

They look cool. It's just another version of the roundel. Nothing wrong with using it but I would buy quality enamel replicas or have them made.

They are not that expensive. Buy OEM ones.

Go for it!

I just bought OEM hood and trunk roundels for my M2C. They are going on as soon as I pull it out of winter hibernation.

A lot of the new to BMW guys think it’s a 50th anniversary badge, but like BMWCCA1 stated above this logo is the original Motorsport logo so if anyone tells you otherwise you can just provide them with a little education. .

In fact, the original Motorsport emblem preceded any production car with an "M" in its name. Use it on any BMW model!

Just do it, it's your car—the Heritage emblems look great and make it that little bit different.

I can't stand them on any model. If my car came with them i'd remove them.

Just curious.
Are you old enough to have had them around when Motorsport was first formed? That would be, oh, 50-years ago?
Maybe that's why I have an affinity for them that you don't.
Or is it simply your aesthetic decision?

Ha I'm not old enough so it's true the meaning isn't there for me. Also, yes it would be a completely aesthetic decision. Did not mean to offend, it's just always been something I've said in my head when seeing them on a BMW and I never really said out loud. I had no idea there was a historical context, I always thought it was just a one-off commemorative badge.

For the 20th Anniversary we had a real event with real Motorsport cars running on real race tracks with real BMW race drivers present. The patches were for our crew shirts. There will likely never be anything like it ever again.

There’s not much that happens with BMW that doesn’t have a historical context. Even the names of many of the paint colors have a historical context.

Right but I didn't know the roundel was used on vehicles previously, I thought it was newly created to commemorate the anniversary.

I don't know of any car that actually came from BMW with the Motorsport emblem on the car other than the grey-scale emblem on the M1 steering wheel. But that didn't keep us from sticking them on several BMW motorcycle models back when the first BMW R100RS Motorsport model arrived in 1978. Both the '78 Motorsport and '84 RS Last Edition in my basement came from BMW striped in Motorsport tri-colors. And I still have a drawer-full of the cloisonné emblems from back then in a drawer!

The striping very much suits the style of the bike, looks great. Something that would also look nice on a 2000 cs.

While not directed to me...sadly, the answer is yes.
